CV angles

What do you guys think about the CV angles with this height? Safe, unsafe, any thoughts?

Maybe try taking a picture of your CV's?

If the ribs on your boots are touching, that means as they spin they wear each other out. Try not to let them touch.

Just ran out and took some pictures. They are touching slightly. Enough to worry and lower the Coilovers?

Yeah that's a bit much. 3.5" is pretty cranked. I'd bring it down to 3" or even 2.5" for a while.
The spring will break in for a bit and settle down, so you might be able to bring it back up in a week or 2, depending on how much it settles down.

Should I lower it a bit tomorrow, wait until after offroading this coming weekend, then get the final adjustments, and have it re-aligned? Are the CV's at a pretty bad position right now? It's just that the thought of putting a few hundred miles on it before an alignment makes me a little uneasy. Especially with offroading involved.

Honestly I see about 50 trucks daily driven with much worse angles.

Eventually over time the rubber will wear itself out (kinda like a dually truck with underinflated tires, it just eats at itself) and let all kinds of crud in. Also at that angle, the actual CV joint inside (that the boot is trying to protect) is more likely to break when loaded up off-road.

Lots of mallcrawlers don't even worry about CV angles, but put some real use (or a bad driver thats hard on the gas) and it is possible to break things.

It's only 2 days old, do you think after it settles, that the angles will be better? Should it be fine for a week or so, to let things settle with some offroading? Then if the angles are still bad, adjust the coilovers? This is how much it settled it just 1 day. First picture is the day I brought it home, 2nd picture is less than 24 hours later.

What's worse, leave the CV angles as is, and let them settle for a few hundred miles and offroad with them. Or adjust them, and have the same few hundred miles and offroading, without an alignment...

I can't really comment on the CV's much since I don't have any experience with them, but just want to ask how you like the SAW setup compared to your old CF 2/1 and 3/2 lifts?

So far I like it better, but when I go ofroading this weekend I'll know for sure.

I personally think it's to much , probably safe but would were out a lot quicker.

The front of your truck is way nose high so thats probably why is so stretched.

I think if your comfortable and possibly ok with the repairs of joints and boots down the road then ok.

I am going to lower it 1/4"-1/2" later today. I want it to be less stiff.

Josh, why the new name?

How does it ride over STOCK XREAS without spacers?

I replied to another thread sarcastically, and apparently that is frowned upon so they banned Josh220.

I notice no difference whatsoever, which leads me to believe Xreas basically does absolutely nothing, unless you have stock springs without it.

Wow surprised they banned you!

Anyway, how does it handle bumpy roads at speed. the XREAS can get jittery and jarring at speed imo.

I find it a bit stiff in the front, but the rear is much nicer. I am going to lower the front to fix some of the stiffness and try to correct the CV angles. I have taken it through a dip that I can normally go about 35mph through, and hit it at about 60mph and it felt great. I'll be going on a trip to Big Bear this weekend so I'll let you know how it does offroad.

I don't know if it is too much angle or not. I kind of agree with 808BMW, I see some GM's and Fords running at more extreme angles than you have right now. For my personal tastes I drop it down .5" from where you are now. You know what though? What I would do doesn't matter one little bit:lmao:

In reading other posts I remember a comment about the stock clamps on the CV boots. They were saying the inner (small) clamps are pretty lame from the factory and once you get an angle on them they are prone to leak. I might consider re-banding the boots as a preemptive strike.

It looks great! Glad you're happy with the drive, that's some real $$$ you've got in it now. You have great stuff, it should serve you well.

Yeah, it's the only thing I have spent more money on than my tint! Haha. I am going to lower it about .5" like you say, but more so to help the CV and ride quality than the lift height. I like it where it is, so I am only going to lower it the absolute minimum.

Next mods are sliders, shrockworks bumper, winch, and dual batteries. :bigok:

Get an ARB bumper over shrock

Sounds great. As twisted as this is I am enjoying living vicariously through you as far as modding and 4wheeling goes:D

I am looking forward to reading about your quest for sliders, skids etc. and dual batteries. Both of those interest me a great deal.

I'll research them both more thuroughly before I make the purchase, however, so far the Shrockworks look MUCH better, and are the most popular choice over on 120.

Haha, no worries, and with how fast I change things, I have personal experience with just about every method. :bigok:

And yes, I forgot about skid plates, you just reminded me of those. Those will be with the rest of the armor such as sliders and the bumper.
