CV Boot repair

I have a ripped boot on the passenger's side in the front. I already bought a new cv boot for $10. How hard is it to install it? Any advice or instructions?

Also, what is the best way to clean the joint before replacing the boot? I went to a local auto repair shop and they wanted $250 to repair the whole axle. I think I'll try cleaning it first and installing the $10 boot first. Any advice on how to do this? I would really appreciate it.
