Does anyone have a good thread that shows how to replace the CV Boot and assembly for my 02 4 runner, had one blow out on me and figured i would just replace the whole assembly, Thanks
Toyota Maintenance: CV Axle Replacement on 3rd Generation 4Runners and Tacomas
Its fairly straight forward. I don't know why you'd have to touch the ball joint.
Also its known that the stock Toyota CV's are much stronger than aftermarket. But if you're not doing anything "hardcore" then you'll be fine. The CV boot kit you buy from Toyota are about $25 each, and its a messy job.
Simply put, all you need to do is remove the 4 lower bolts off the spindle, pull it out of the way. Whack the end of the outer shaft of the CV with a mallet to get it to break free. Then wedge a screwdriver in between the inner CV cup and diff to pop the entire assembly out from the diff.

Make sure you have a 35mm or 1 1/8" socket..... Tore my truck apart, and now I don't have a socket to take the axle out. :/ Also.... went to 2 stores in my little buttf@ck town, and all of the stores we checked at 2pm on a Saturday, either didn't have it... or were closed.
Hoping my buddy has one at his place..... but gotta wait for the wife to get back from home, so I can take my Taco to his place to check....
Hey fightman, you're 3 years late to this thread
BTW, I got my 35mm as part of a set on Harbor Freight so at least you can order online if you can wait.
Ooh, good to know. Use those calipers! Another reason I stick with OEM so I have less surprises.Nut size depends on the manufacture of the axle...
