Cx racing turbo kit

How come nobody has tried the cx racing turbo kit? I've searched all the forums, and not one person has posted a install or results.

People whine about crap weld quality on the CX headers. I agree tho, it would take all of an hour and $100 to have those welds beefed up. DO IT! Someone needs to...

I started the process, have the parts, but have not installed. Life has been in the way, lol...

Because people dont really care about adding turbos and all the work needed to a 4runner. Now if you research cx turbos on cars that actually are made to go fast you will find info.

CX racing has come a long way. I have seen parts from them for over 15 years on ebay and seen how they have evolved.

Non mechanical parts like intercoolers, piping, headers, and some stuff like wastegats and BOV's from them work really good. Avoid the turbos.

Like said above the headers work best when you reweld them for longevity and if you support the header for the turbo weight. Most cheap headers crack when the weight of the turbo is hanging on it.

I would stay away from the Chinese turbos for sure. I've got an old Garrett turbo sitting around.

I wish I had thought about this before I coated my turbo manifolds...

How many miles do you have on your 4Runner? The turbo kit seems to be a lot cheaper then a supercharger but at 190k miles I would be worried about blowing the ol girl up

Just make brackets to support the turbo. I'm jealous. I want to do this kit on e85. Standalone ECU and hx35. Be fun.

A lot of people have succes with cx racing turbos. Where it would be mounted on a 3.4 it would be easy to pop the intake hose and check for shaft play. I would just utilize my 7TH injector for fueling.

I'm at 310,000+ miles and I still plan on trying it, lol.

190,000 is nothing for the 5VZ.
I'd say most people here have TRD Supercharged their 4Runners with 200,000 miles or more. Plenty have done it with 150-200,000 miles. There are some that were dealer installed when new. And a few guys have S/C'd at over 300,000. Rock_Rat will be doing this soon.

My 3RZ is rebuilt & I dont know what kit was used in it so if anyone is going to blow his motor up it will be me! I have 162,000 on the truck & 3 years and under 20,000 miles on the rebuild. It runs like new & I've been DD it for 4 weeks now instead of my 28 mpg Accord Coupe because it's so much fun to drive. It really loves the colder air outside & feels like I've gained hp LOL.

Rear mount....rear mount...rear mount!

Seriously though, these are 4runners. No matter if its supercharged or turbocharged, we are not really making them fast, just faster. Doing the rear mount turbo was easy and gives you enough power to keep up with traffic, even going up mountains etc... No need to get custom headers and deal with all the under hood heat and other problems that you will encounter to get a little more power. The Chinese turbos may not be the best by a long shot, but they are proven to work. I would rather change out turbos all day long at $125than to fight exhaust leaks from the headers. I have about $800-$1000 in my setup and that includes $200 for the exhaust work. Not to say its not without issue, but when you start jacking with the way the factory did it, what is?

I've seen cheap Chinese turbos turbine break into pieces and suck into the head. I've seen the exhaust housing crack on first warm up. How about that exhaust leak.

Rear mount is the cheapest easy way. By far not the best option. You now have more piping for boost leaks.

Manifold leaks happen if you don't know what your doing. Not to mention under hood turbo 1000 times more sexy.

Holset turbo can be bought for under 500 used. Will last forever at 50psi if need be.

I don't like rear mount because you have to have a pump to return the oil to the engine. If that pump fails, you're in a bad spot. I'd rather gravity drain back to the pan.

this is something i would love to do. the kits dont look bad at all but ya like everyone said dont use there turbo. i have one of there manifold on my 2jz setup and have not had any issue. use all there manifolds and pipes and just just spend some good money on the turbo and WG

I considered a rear mount. Not really totally against it. However with the Underhood turbo u get rid of the restrictive stock manifolds at the same time. But I was close to deciding on building my own rear mount setup.

Ive been considering this just for fun. Surprised there arent more folks running it considering the price. Im maxed on the supercharger with 2.1 pulley and water meth plus urd 7th.
