On Dec 31 of 2007 I was on my way at the beach to celebrate the New Year. I had to cross a river at 10 pm (it was very cool to offroad at night) and well after crossing this river, when I arrive to my destination 5 minutes later, i went to a mini market and when tried to turn on the engine the rpm's would just drop down intermediately, at the moment with no shop open what I did was pump the gas pedal and that way achieved a steady RPM. That happened during a few days after when starting the engine cold. Days passed and the car returned to normal, I thought it was the sparks so I changed them and it ran smoothly as nothing happened. Well, last sunday I went offroading -no river crossing this time- but climbing very steep hills, no problem at all til I arrived home and the same, problems starting up that same day running hot and the day after running cold. As the days passed it fixed by itself again, so I didn't give much importance to it. Well one day I press floored the gas pedal using the ECT Button to pass a truck on the highway and after doing so, the engine turned off, and then the same happened two days after.
I just got a call from the mechanic telling me that according to their machine diagnosis the engine has two cylinders with compression ratio below normal, that the car is running on 3/4 of it's total HP. He says he has to open the entire engine piece by piece to diagnose witch component may be failing, but its difficult for me to believe in this diagnosis since I've don't notice any performance downgrade since the truck was new, what I do notice is lower compression power while in 2 and L and even L in L4 (where I understand you don't even have to touch the break pedal) but this is happening since say, 2 years ago (no rivers involved)
PD: Also I've noticed -according to MPG's polls in this forum- my gas mileage is very low - 9 city/18 highway. This is not after the river crossing, it has been like this since 2 years. (my CR dealer says they can't tune it more)
My Specs are:
99 SR5 with 72,500 miles droved. (No mods but K&N Filter and few times used octane booster.
Any ideas or suggestions? I'm worried
