Cylinder head bolt

For all you who have done this
Recently replaced head gasket and bought new cylinder head bolts
Torqued to 25 lbs and then the first 90 degrees but the other 90 degrees are super hard to achieve
Is this normal for new bolts
Using 16” torque wrench

They are fairly difficult to tighten. I don’t recommend using a torque wrench after the initial tightening though. I’ve always used a breaker bar for the 90 degree turns. I don’t have a turn degree gauge so using something that doesn’t ratchet is easier to keep track of

That's normal for them to be hard to get to the second 90 degree stretch. A longer ratchet or breaker bar helps and can be used if you mark the fasteners with a paint pen so you can see how far you have turned it in degrees.

Try a 24" breaker bar, it'll make it easier.

Torque wrenches can snap if you exceed their maximum rating. I've done that by accident with a cheap one I used to own as it's not meant to be used as a breaker bar.
