now i have an 06 sport and was wondering what is the proper way way to use/ engage Downhill Assist Control & Hill Start Assist Control

DAC, you need to be in 4L and press the DAC button on the center console. Keep your foot off the gas and brake, DAC will do its thing when you're going downhill at about 2-3mph.

HAC, it's automatic. When you're going uphill on a steep enough grade, take your foot off the brake. The brakes will remain engaged, keeping the 4Runner from rolling backwards. There will be some amount of chatter as the brakes are working. I think it'll only hold the 4Runner for 5 seconds max and disengages when you hit the gas. HAC is meant to keep the 4Runner from rolling back going uphill, so you don't need to use two feet.

Nope. You're thinking of Crawl Control on the LX570 and 5th gen 4R.

HAC keeps you from rolling backwards when going up hill after a complete stop before you start moving again.
