My 1999 4Runner has 278,000 miles on it. I am original owner and it has been carefully maintained. It is driven "off-pavement"--I do not need a crawler but my work puts me off pavement--trails, fire breaks, plowed fields, but nothing really extreme. When working I carry driver plus one and about 250 pounds of stuff and tow a 1300 pound trailer,

About 6 months ago a paring lot accident gained me an ARB front bumper.

I need a good highway traveler. Will an OME medium setup be too rough on the highways? Is there a better option? Any suggestion for heavier sway bars? Bushing?

Just upgraded to ToyTec BOSS coilover system but yet to install it. Ive read nothing but great reviews for ALL types of driving/hauling except EXTREMELY harsh terrain at fast speeds.

I would probably opt for the TRail Bias option #2.

Since this is a '99 do I need to replace the existing springs?

Do I need to compensate for the weight of the ARB bumper--no winch?

If I upgrade the brakes, should I use a .25" spacer or will the stock wheels clear the new brakes?

For some reason I thought I had seen a thread suggesting 1.25" front sway bar and 1.0" rear sway bar. I can not find this thread and am asking for clarification.

We don't know which wheels you have

The link streetcreeper posted tells you everything to replace for a refresh, I would just go by that. Absalom knows what he's talking about

98WhiteT4R--Wheels are stock and marked 18x7JJ 15. 5 spoke.

I will post photo as soon as I learn how. LOL

What did you have to do to get those Fox Rears with the kit? they don't show them on their site. I need to get a heavier set of rear shocks bad.
 
98WhiteT4R---How do I compensate for the ARB bumper? Different springs or shocks or both?

The recommended refresh is saving me money--so I have some budget room--I just want to get this right the first time.

With OME you can do both

If you have the 5 spokes you can clear the 231 Tundra brakes without a spacer.

Good eye.

I did have to pay a $50 upgrade, but the main reason was ToyTec was out of stock of BOSS and Billstein's the day I went in. I wanted to have all the parts ready for install.

Nice, I am having a hell of a time specing out shocks for my setup, any chance you could pull the part number off those for me? I am curious what the specs are on them. I am going to be running OME 861's in the rear for springs which should be about 5" over stock for the amount of weight I have in the back.

I have a 3rd gen also and I am also looking to get the Fox 2.0 rears to go with my 2-3" rear lift (OME 890s).

Did you ever figure out part number for the rears you have?

The shop I ordered from suggested these: Fox 980-24-679 (FJ rears), but as you mentioned ToyTec lists Fox 980-24-670-B (Tacoma rears) as being for 96-02 4Runners. I'm just worried the 679s will be too long.

I know its a long shot but, if you know it would be a big help.
