Hey all! I am going to be doing a lot of highway driving, and hence the front lift must come out - I never was able to correctly have it aligned, and the tire hum and steering shimmy around 65 is getting unbearable. I'm going to replace the struts, but should I also replace those springs since they have been compressed for so long?

Yeah i'm going to leave the back in, I tow a big sailboat and that really improved towing, I'm just sick of the front lift because I never was able to get it properly aligned and I've never been happy with how the truck has handled. I'm going to replace the struts for sure, but I'm concerned about reusing the springs in the front since they have been compressed with the spacer for so long.

have 99 front springs and Bilsteins
I have a prebuilt set up for 96-02 4wds. Contains my stock 99 front springs with Bilsteins used for about 30K miles.
These are practically a giveaway if you are interested.
Your steering wheel shake however is likely tie rod inner wear or steering rack bushings or the rack itself.
I would hate to see you remove your lift up front just to discover you still have the same symptoms.

Yeah I worried about that too, the tie rods are newer but the rack could be going - nonetheless, I'm looking to get the more comfortable ride back as I'm driving the Runner up to Alaska this summer. Hopefully when I get back I'll have enough money to put a real lift in. I'm still concerned about re-using the springs that have been compressed with the spacers, should I try and find new ones?
