Damaged Trail edition plastic fender flare, requesting assistance.

Hello everyone ,

I am an owner of a 2013 4Runner trail edition. I was detailing the vehicle today and I fell off the ladder by accident. I accidently damaged the black plastic rear right fender flare and I am wondering if this is something fixable or need a new replacement.

I am from canada and where is a good place to buy the item at a reasonable price besides the dealership please.

The reason they aren't painted is because they are meant to get scratched up.

i was detailing the roof and fell over. hit the flare by accident. .....

Try using a heat gun on it, it won't take the gash out but it will darken it back the black plastic color and 'hide' it.

Mine got thrashed first week I bought mine.

Now I just keep it covered in mud, not visible anymore.

Here is a link to the part at Camelback Toyota. It should be #7 on the diagram. Another solution would be to have all of the fender flares Line-X'd. That will probably be the direction I go should any of them ever get damaged on mine.

Take it off road and let it get scratched up like it's meant to be then you will have a good story.
This is why I buy used. You spend a ton of money on them new and then feel the need to keep them blemish free. It's less stressful having a used one

Hah, that's funny. I bought mine new.

I used to care, even started a thread about how best to avoid red neck pin striping (and got torn to shreds over it). Now, well now I've got a nice quarter sized hole in my bumper from picking a fight with a tree, scratches from taking on a creek bed and losing, and as much pin striping as paint.
If you're not planning on using your truck off road, order a new part. However, if you're going to wheel it, try the heat gun trick, and don't sweat the small stuff.

I would recommend you just try to get it to blend in a little. You may never get it perfect, but making it less obvious may be enough that the cost of the part is not worth it.

I would also work on a better story. :lie:

I know it might be not helpful, but I wouldn't spend too much effort for damage on plastic. Chances are that sooner or later you'll take your Trail offroad and this little damage won't worry you at all : )

If it was mine, I'd just order the part and be done with it. I paid a lot of money for my car, and I take good care of it. For me at least, I couldn't live with a gash like that in the plastic. Every time I see it, I would cringe.

My 4Runner has seen a good amount of offroad use, but you would never know by looking at it. The paint is in perfect condition, and it looks like a truck that has been kept in a garage and seldom used. It treat it well, and it treats me well. It seems a lot of people in the offroad community enjoy beating up their expensive vehicles and wearing damage as a badge of honor -- but to me that's just stupid to spend a lot of money on something and letting it get trashed.

Order the replacement part and you'll be happy again. Problem solved.
