damn cam bushing frozen

Took the vehicle in after I put the total chaos UCA on. Was told they could not do a proper alignment as the passenger front bushing was frozen. I thought possibly he may not have known how to loosen the nut first etc. Nice guy and said if I was able to loosen it he would redo the alignment for no charge. Ive got -1.6 camber with decent toe and castor 3.7 both sides.

I've searched all around on techniques to get these off, though they were on other vehicles. I did all the suspension work, bumpers electronics etc on the truck myself but I am no expert mechanic. Gave it a shot with Liquid Wrench, hammer, torch this am...no luck. Even if I replace the lower control arm probably gotta cut these things out.

any other advice? I ordered up some SPC bolts, but also looks like OEM may be better. and while a set of TCA lowers would be nice, thats a steep budget for a part time off roader like myself. Its not my daily, but I also want this thing fixed asap. The whole bushing moves when I wrench in the big nut...

Thanks.....

Yup. Just played with it again. After a few beers I ordered up the TC LCA. Soon as they arrive it’s time for the saw!! I am gonna F that metal up. Some major F bombs in the garage today. Only 2 years old and all seized up. The NE weather put a bearing on them.

Thanks for the links and advice. I ordered up some mouse milk to have around. The reviews I found on it were fantastic. The rears are no problem so I dont think I will even have to saw these out. There's enough play with the camber washer plate off and I can probably even bend the frame mount a little. The front of the sleeve is barely sticking out. If not, doesn't look like it will take long to saw through that sleeve. I tried to pound it out from behind. Perhaps I coulda been more patient and hit it with liquid wrench every 12 hours and work it out, but the system pissed me off and I dropped the hammer on the Total Chaos. I had just had the system aligned a year ago, and the truck is a 2017. I will lube the piss out of the new bolts.

I put it back together so I could still drive it till the new LCA come. I'll tackle that next weekend, and hopefully it doesn't take more than a few hours each side.

In regards to the above question, 2 Heady Toppers was all it took before I placed the order...then mistakenly had one more to cap the night off.

Just encountered the same thing on my 2017 TRD ORP. I live in the NE and the damn slurry they put down in the winter is killing vehicles. Passenger side cam bolt is seized and alignment is impossible. Luckily I'm still under warranty and I have an appointment with the dealer on Wednesday. I'll update as to outcome once done.

Warranty. I didn’t even think of hitting the dealer. Who knows, with my aftermarket suspension probably woulda had some push back. Anyway. If you need a set of lower control arms they are yours for free. I’m located just west of Boston. I’ll post up next Sunday my results and keep us updated on the dealer and warranty.

Had this issue on mine when I had the Icon put on. Bolts had to be cut off and replaced. Toyota only sells the bushings with the LCA, so ended up getting new OEM LCA from McGeorge Toyota cheaper than anywhere else. Thought about aftermarket, but only really one option for KDSS LCA, and was already more than I planned on spending for the Icon. Pretty sure 4WP used aftermarket ones with a sleeve that won't seize, but not sure who's it was.

The original petroleum blend can damage rubber, comes in a plastic bottle. it literally takes only a few drops per application, precision needle works best. A bottle can last for years.

I have not used the vegetable based or fuel component blends.

I'm not sure 'fun' is the right word

Get your cutoff wheel or sawsall out, it a fun project!

I spent three hours trying to get the first cam bolt off my son's 2003 former NY 4runner. Finally had to grab the sawzall for all 4 bolts.

The cross-section reveals why: the bolt, cam aligner, and bushing sleeve had completely fused together.

The sawzall with a Diablo carbide blade did make quick work of it.

I have been posting on all theads to remove the bolt and sleeves and add anti-seize to all the lower control arms for future front end alignments! I got my new 4runner and will be doing it before the winter season!
