damn rock hit my windshield.

I think most of us at one time or another have replaced a windshield. I think getting a aftermarket windshield would be fine, I know it is easier. Some compaines even come to your work. I just wonder how hard it is to get a windshield for a vehicle that has only been out for one year? You may have to buy from Toyota and they may ahve to order it.

I dodged a bullet a few weeks ago. I was travelling down a section of freeway notorious for all the semi's- construction semi's that carry lots of gravel and dirt.
Well a rock the size of... not sure but at 65mph I could clearly see this projectile coming right at me. It hit so hard it left a mark on the windshield and made a huge sound! Later the mark wiped off, whew!
I had my windshield break on a Honda on the freeway. Don't know what happened, just a wham!
Anyway, it happens all the time which is how so many auto glass places stay in business.
I highly recommend Toyota OEM windshield. It is hydrophyllic and 94% UV resistant as well as optically clear.
Installation is nearly as important as the gluing edges cannot be touched or the window is ruined. You need a reputable installer to fit it right so you don't get leaks, wind noise or improper gluing. Remember it is part of the structural integrety of the car- more so in a unibody but it is still important in the 4Runner.

I got my new 4Runner at the beginning of the year and sometime in February a diesel slung a rock about the size of a golf ball into my windshield. I had to get it replaced. My insurance covered it but I had to pay $75-$100. They came to my house and replaced the windshield there. Couldn't drive it for about a half of a day but have had no problems since.

It sounded like a boulder hit my window. Actually, it sounded like I drove into a low cliff and just my windshield hit... lol
Anyways, Its going to cost $350 to replace. Not so bad at all! I was expecting worse...

It sounded like Randy Johnson slung the hell out of a baseball into my windshield. I wonder how that dove that he killed must have felt?
Colorado uses dirt for traction on the HWYs hence everyone here has a broken windshield sooner or later. I go thru one a year on average. My last replacement on my Sequoia was done at a dealership while my breaks were being re-built. They contracted it out to Elite auto glass. When I got the rig back there was a hole in the paint on the hood. I was P-O'ed and insisted that it be repaired.
The dealership blamed the glass guy who denied it, I think it was spilled break fluid on the hood but eventually dealership agreed to repaint hood - I was about to get real ugly. Hood didn't match, so I took it back, they blended fenders, grill now didn't match - took it back, blended grille. Whole front end now matched itself, but not the roof or the rest of the car. That's when I decided to sell the thing and get a 4Runner.
Moral of the story is, be careful who works on your car, too many times they drive a 15 year old hunk of junk and don't give a good god d*** s*** how your car ends up. The american worker, gotta love em, it's no wonder they can't build a reliable car when they don't even have the work ethic to fix one w/o causing more damage!

Lets just say in about 60 sec the chip became a 18" fracture!!!!Needlessly I just called up a local glass shop and got it replaced the next day. Took about 30-45min tops but at a cost. If you want the factory Toyota glass (from Japan) it'll cost ya ALOT. If you want the US Toyota glass that's around $500.00 (installed).
I got the replacement glass that Toyota uses here in the states for $300 including installation so that'll give ya some idea on how much to spend.

I have a guy that does it and is using the same glass that toyota throws their name on (pidum.. P something). The guy is really good and is a good friend of a good friend of mine. Its going to cost me $350. Im dropping it off tomorrow morning and picking up tomorrow night after work...

They will first try to patch it. (if they can) They tried it on mine. Came to the office and did the work there. At first looked good. However, the patch did not take and it began to travel. (The patch area looked like a "+. ") I have a "Zero" deductible. They replaced the glass free of charge. No leaks. Make sure to ask for OEM.
