hey guys new here. my parents have two 4Runners. One is a 95' and one is a 92'. Well on the 95' it leaks a little near the tranny on the bottom of the car. My dad went to go take it to the stealership to see what was wrong. P.S. don't think we have a warranty on it still. But anyways. The stealership says it need a new headgasket. Our 95' only has 75,xxx miles on it and it was never driven hard. Its usually driven by my mom and mostly highway miles. Well the question is what are the symptoms leading to head gasket failure? I know that water and the oil would mix. The exhaust smoke could be a different color?Wouldn't the temperature gauge go up?

bump* the leak comes like once a week. anything to worry about? its like my car menstruates every week lol. the oil is the size of a wallet or smaller when it has fallen on the floor.

i remember something about a head gasket recall for the '95 runners. you may want to check if your vin falls within the recall.

Have you had any issues with rough starting, rough idling that clears shortly after hitting the gas. Any mysterious loss of coolant? I have had a blown head gasket on a Honda and a Chevy. Both had coolant leaking directly into the cylinder and was not showing up in the oil pan.

it starts up normally and i don't think im losing coolant

Is the oil leaking at the head gasket? If not, I would get a second opinion as to the cause of the oil leak. A head gasket, assuming it is out of waranty, would be very expensive. If the coolant were leaking into the oil you would see a creamy residue in your oil. If the coolant were going straight into the cylindar you would have a sweet smell to your exhaust. I've never had a head gasket leak oil. Not saying it doesn't happen, just hasn't happened to me. Both of those vehicles were run alot harder than my 4runner ever will.
