Damn.... These Dunlops really f*cking suck.

Only 3" of snow or so came down locally, roads weren't all that bad. But damn, these tires suck. Way too unpredictable, the tread fills right up and it's like driving on slicks. I was following a Chevy cavalier that just had all seasons on and she was navigating corners & stopping better than I could. Granted, I could take off faster thanks to 4WD, but I'd rather be driving a FWD car with good all seasons or snow tires than a 4WD with these crappy tires.

I see Costco has the Revos on sale - or at least what appears to be the revos. They aren't specifically labled as revos when I looked at their website. Anyone know for sure if they are? Plus there is a $60 off set of 4 tires right now, so the price is good. Just wish I had a local store near me, closest one is almost 2 hours away. May try and see if sears will match the prices.

Ugh... just very frustrated. Why on earth does Toyota put such bad tires on a 4-Runner. It blows my mind.

Couple of members have bought Revos from Costco.

OEM tires are for the most part not made to last nor made for performance. If OEM tires were made for performance/functionality and made to last.... these tire companies wouldn't do so well.

Best of luck on finding a set closer to home. :D

Amen brother!

You can order the 265/65 17 Revo from tiresavings.com for $149 each. It is higher than Costco, but they are delivered to your door and will save a 4 hour drive. Sears or Firestone will probably match the Costco offer.
 
Would it be better to go for the 265/65R17 or the 265/70R17? I'm sure the 70 would look better, but what kind of problems would be encountered, such as speedometer/odometer being off, rubbing, etc?
 
I think they put crap tires on cars and trucks to save money.

When my wife bought her 02 Highlander we had to put new tires on it at 20K.

When we bought our 4Runer in 93 it came with Goodyear 31X10.5 that lasted 50K.
 
I am not a fan of Revo's - never saw the things befor I got my yota and came to this site and every one was in love with them? When I said they looked like street tires I got totaly flamed.

I got Goodyear ATS's - a bit more $ but from my personal experienc a bit more than an AT and not a true mud tire. Good middle ground or inbetween tire.

I had BFG ATKO's in the past but did not think they were as good when it was wet or in the mud.

My vote Goodyear ATS!

Mine came with Goodyears they were OK

But air down my BFG's a little and they kick a**:D
 
I had Goodyear ATS on my T-100 and I can say that I did really like them. However, they did end up all having major issues with the belts and it was considered a manufactor's failure ans till Goodyear would only give a credit of $50/tire.

I'm also on my 2nd set of Revo's and love them! The only complaint I have at all is that sometimes they tend to track in the highway grooves. Now I haven't noticed this nearly as much on the 4Runner as I did on a Honda Element that I had.

For a look at them on a 4Runner here is a link to my rig. I have the 265/70/17 and I think they fill out the wheel wells quite nicely. And no issues with that size whatsoever. No rubbing, no noticible change in gas mileage, etc.

The Revos rock, best tire I've had so far.

The Goodyear AT/Ss bring the suck! We had two sets of those on our Expedition, and they were crap from day one. The first set were so out of round the vehicle was horrible to drive at highway speeds. The replacement set lasted about 20,000 miles before large chunks of tread started coming off the inside edge of the tires. Scary bad. The only decent off-road tire they make is the MT/R, as long at you aren't in deep mud.

On the recommendation from a bunch of people on the Ford Truck enthusists forum, I replaced them with the Revos, and it was a night and day difference.

The 4R will get some Revos once the H/Ts wear down a bit.

BTW- has anyone noticed that the Revos tend to run a little small? When I switched the Expy tires from Goodyear to Bridgestone, I noticed they looked a little smaller, and that was confirmed when I found out my speedo was reading a bit fast. (checked with a GPS, it was dead on with the Goodyears) Both tires state they are 265-70-17.

So now we all agree the Dunlops suck, average price of a 4Runner 30k and Toyota can't hook all up with Michelins:(

Right before I got my 03 all the 4Runners had Michelins and Sports had the whitewall BridgeStone, then they sold out and the next batch all came in with Dunlops:o

The 05 will have Michelins or Im not leaving the dealer:) but it seems every new car that has come through my circle of family or friends the OEM tires are 20k, you can possible get up to 30k but only during summer months;):

I replaced mine with OE spec 265/65 Revo's. Couldn't help you on the 265/70 size. The Revo's in stock sizing look bigger to me than the stock Dunlop because of the more aggressive tread.

I find the Revo's slightly bouncy. I run 32 PSI, maybe it's because I have less than 500 miles on them. And the temp has been below freezing for awhile. Again, It's also a more aggressive tread than the Dunlop. They've been balanced twice.

My alltime fav is the Michelin LTX M/S, but they don't come in 265/65 sizing.

Why didn't you just go with the stock size??

Your speedometer will now read 3.4% too slow... same for your odometer, which means your mileage will never be correct.

Your new tires have a diameter 1 inch larger than the stock tires.
 
I still don't see why the Dunlops get such a bad reputation on this forum... They seem just fine to me and have decent snow traction for an all-season tire.

Funny thing here is that I've heard people complain about the Revo's performance in snow, saying it left a lot to be desired.

I think I'll stick with my Dunlops until they wear out and then maybe consider another tire... or maybe I'll just look for someone selling their stock Dunlops on the forum and buy 'em for cheap:D
 
I went with the larger size because I like the larger look. Yes, I know it will throw the odometer and speedometer off a little. I guess not enough to matter to me. I had intended to size up when I went to have them installed, but the other advantage is that the 265/70/17's were cheaper than OEM size. Can't complain about that. And I don't think the increase in size is significantly enough to matter. I have gotten a ton of compliments about the tires--very noticible.
