DannyBFresco's '95 Redheaded Stepchild

Oh man, if you engine swap go for the R2.8 if you've got that kinda cash. If not, maybe take on a VW ALH TDI. I've got a guy here in the bay area that has a built up ALH sitting in his shop just waiting for someone to give it new life. You'd have tons of power AND get 35mpg...

Definitely don’t have R2.8 money lol. That thing is crazy expensive! I’ve never looked into VW tho. Any details on it?

Not much to update in here, as the 4Runner's in the shop getting the valve cover gaskets and power steering pump/hoses fixed, but I did manage to snag my buddy's old CB and antenna for a firm handshake and a 12-pack of IPAs. I think I'm in the minority when I say this, but my CB setups have treated me just fine in my trucks and I've never felt the need to upgrade. The added range is cool for HAM setups, but I'm usually within close range of my buddies so I've never really felt the need. Once I get the Redheaded Stepchild (I probably need an acronym or different name) back, I'm going to install the CB, change the spark plugs, install my OME kit, and then go down the "what kinda tires should I get" rabbit hole.

In the meantime, here's a pic of my Tacoma running Slick Rock Trail here in NorCal :rapture:

Oh, actually, if anybody has any suggestions on cool roof racks to look into I'd greatly appreciate it! All I've been finding, aside from Dropzone super clean custom one has been pep boys baskets on the OEM rack

Nice truck! I am in the same boat to you as far as fuel economy goes on the one I just picked up, almost identical mpg. Probably going to start my own thread on what I hope to do. Mine is going more towards a daily driver though. How's the exhaust on her? Smell like gas at all? Mine sounds like a diesel so I'm picking up a compression gauge tomorrow.

The exhaust just smells like mid-90s exhaust lol. I smelled oil for a bit, but the reputable exhaust shop in town looked it over, tested it, and attributed it to the valve cover gasket leak's oil dripping onto the exhaust. When I get it back, I'm going to do the spark plugs, and I just now thought to do the MAF sensor and the idler air control valve too. Hopefully all that should give it a little more efficiency

I assume by MAF you mean the AFM. It's my understanding that we don't have a MAF but rather this sensor attached to a flap. Make sure if you're disconnecting the plug from it you don't unscrew the two screws, you'll break the solder. There's a small wire clip holding it on. I can pm you a good video I found on it if you're interested, going to adjust mine once I test my compression and know I'm good in that regard.

Yeah that's probably what I meant lol. I'm still learning a lot about this truck, so I must've been thinking in terms of my '06 Taco. I'd definitely appreciate a video if you have one!

Welp, in an unexpected turn of events...I sold the redheaded stepchild to a 16 year old kid in my neighborhood for his first car. He wanted to get into wheeling/overlanding, so I gifted him the OME lift and some skid plates I had laying around waiting to be installed. Although I miss it already, I know he's going to use the hell out of it...which is what she deserves :sadwave: :moping:

I miss my 4Runner, but after some time I decided to get its bigger bro...1996 FZJ80 Land Cruiser. The previous owner already installed a 2" OME lift, and I put on the 315/70R17 Cooper STT Pros that I scored on CL for $75 and a set of bronze 17x8.5" Icon Rebound wheels. I'm back in the old school Toyota SUV game!
