In TX, you're allowed to carry inside a theater unless the theater has the official sign. I believe that someone who has CC may have minimize the death toll if he/she was very near the shooter and has a clear window.

My sister-in-law's husband's daughter was in the adjecent theater where bullets penetrated but fortunatly nobody I knew was hurt.

Even for those who have concealed permits you can't carry into a theater or the like plus can you imagine some carrier with good intentions but no more than a gun safety course under their belt shooting blindly in a tear gas filled room and hitting more than the suspect. Most gun owners aren't properly trained to deal with this type of situation and if an innocent took a bullet from somebody who thought they were trying to help would just feed the anti-gun crowd.

this is messed up, kid went in there with a m16,remmy 870 and a 40 cal pistol, first throwing a smoke/flash bang in the room then opening fire , his car was parked out the backside of the theater with another 40 cal and other bags of what could be weapons as well, there are very few cases where i think we should just circumvent the justice system and go straight to the punishment part of it and these sort of a-holes are the ones who don't deserve equal rights and fair treatment, why would you ever do such a thing?

Only problem I see is that for every person who foils a robbery or who ends up a hero, there's another one who should never have been allowed to own a gun, to begin with.

I gotta agree with RonMAIDEN on this one. Sometimes it's better to simply try and survive a violent encounter, be a good witness, maybe help other people (if possible) than it is to try and be a hero.

well i think the argument is allowed or not they would have one and that takes the power from the good law abiding citizens and essentially makes them nothign more than potential victims...

let me put it to you like this , since no one there had a gun the culprit was able to take his time walk around the theater and shoot people at will, apparently he walked right up to a 3 month old baby,put a gun to it's head and pulled the trigger...
i'm sorry but a trained or untrained civilian would have stopped that from happening, the gunman now has something else to worry about and is no longer trying to kill as many as he can, but only trying to kill the one who is shooting at him, giving others time to get away ....
i'd care to make the argument that the general odds of survival for a group of people in any case are better when there is fire being returned to the perpetrator other than him being unopposed acquiring targets and taking the shot , i really do think stray bullets from an impromptu fire fight are less of a threat than being semi trapped in a room with a man with 3 guns shooting as many as he can.....

i'm a liberal/libertarian man, but these anti gun people are just weak and fear ridden, un-american even ..
speaking as a dual national here,America was built on the idea of self reliance, sitting there waiting to be shot because an OUTLAW is on a killing spree is not self reliant, and the greater fear of being shot by a citizen returning fire than that of being killed by a insidious outlaw murderer compels them to make laws tying the hands of good honest people.... that is weakness and as fear ridden as you can get. i personally would rather be shot by the guy to my right trying to stop the bad guy than be shot by the bad guy himself....

but hey that's how i feel and that's my freedom of speech, i know not everyone agrees and they don't have to, i just can't find any other way of looking at it after living in really anti-gun countries and seeing their freedoms vs ours across the board.

From a quick reading, this guy was heavily armored...kevlar stuff from neck to toes. If so, then my little 9mm (124 gr +P) won't do much to him...unless a head shot, which would be quite difficult on a moving target in a panic situation with folks flying everywhere....

Has there been much misuse of CC license?? I doubt it. I would bet that there are much more positive outcome from CC license than people who abuse it.

The second amendment is not for militia, but for a citizen to protect himself from being a slave to a tyrant government. If some f*cking suit in Washington tries to take my guns away, I'm not going down without a fight. That's my freedom, the govenment can f*ck off. I'd would trust somebody like Thai with a CC and in a situation like what occured but what about an 18 year old with his first gun he got last week and an overeagerness to use it?

Just because somebody has a CC doesn't mean they are trained in a tactical situation where innocent people and chaos happning around them. Plus if several people with weapons whip their's out in a situation who's to know who the initial shooter actually is?

I'm just saying there also needs to be reasonable thought along with owning and carrying a gun which some gun owners are so gun crazy they bother me a little bit.

My thoughts exactly. I was reading what started to be a thread to show sympathy and comfort to those who were affected by a maniac who lost his mind. Next thing you know this turns into a debate about politics and gun laws.

My heart goes out to the victims of this tragedy. I couldn't imagine what it would feel like to let your children or other family go to see a movie and have your life ruined by someone who saw it fit to go on a mass murdering spree. No matter what happens to the man who killed and injured so many people, justice can never be served. I hope the families and friends of the victims can find peace.

This is now the biggest mass shooting in US history. It's damn ridiculous that now we can't even feel safe doing normal things. Watching these interviews is really saddening. I couldn't imagine this happening!

I hope this guy gets what he deserves.

This guy was just a smart guy...the fact that he knew how to rig his apartment is impressive. He did his research for sure. Too bad he could not use his smarts to make society better!

Lets face it, this guy is smart enough to know that he will likely get the death penalty, which is a quick death after years of being in court and having 3 course meals.
