I was thinking the same thing when I was typing it. It's my sister in law's new husband so his kids really aren't my neices or nephews so I didn't want to state it like that but it did look funny.

By definition, he is a terrorist. You do not have to be a foreigner and hi-jacking airplanes to be a terrorist. He may not be the common type that we usually identify as a terrorist. He did in fact use intimidation and induce fear for a lot of people to do what they would normally do throughout their normal life. I wonder how many people went to the theaters this weekend?

Ok,it's semantics,we assume he's not associated with what america's common definition of a terrorist is. Let's not go down this road with this thread til we know more facts and then if he's associated with a terroist organization then we can revisit the idea.

I am generally against concealed carry laws unless the holder can prove a specific threat to their life. that is how the law works here in San Diego and we are pretty safe.

That said, I think in this one particular instance if the guy had tried this in Texas he might (MIGHT) have been stopped by someone carrying a gun.

My uncle carries a concealed gun with him and lives in Salt Lake city. He is well trained (ex military and former LEO) someone like him might have stopped the shooter.

But I also feel like that is my gut talking and the strict rules in San Diego should stay as they are currently....

That is the general rule for most (if not all) Conceal Handgun laws in all states. CHL individuals are NOT cops. We were taught that in class. CHL is only to be used to defend life.

If he killed 100 people, would he be a common terrorist? What about 3000 people with a few hi-jacked airplanes?

The truth is that there is no such thing as a common terrorist. They are all different and have their own agendas and ideas. The only thing common is their act of violence against innocent people.

Ask anyone that has been associated with the law enforcement or military and you'll learn that there is nothing common about terrorists.

I don't believe he's from any organization and acted alone like the two that commited the Columbine or the Va tech murders and nobody refers to them as terrorists. Most likely he's just a very intelligent disturbed individual.

The more I'm reading this James Holmes with calling himself the "joker",surrendering easily to police,rigging his apartment but giving up this information right away,it appears he wanted the notoriety and infamy and didn't have any agenda beyond that. With the booby trapped apartment it's like he needed a "scene" to justify his Joker status and for more publicity which he's gotten.

let me put it to you like this , since no one there had a gun the culprit was able to take his time walk around the theater and shoot people at will, apparently he walked right up to a 3 month old baby,put a gun to it's head and pulled the trigger...

Sorry, but all the NRA-induced rhetoric and 2nd Amendment talk aside, I've spent my entire career dealing with law breakers. And not just the proverbial bottom rung of society. But also many so-called "regular people" who are always touted as among the most responsible gun owners: veterans, CC permit holders, former cops, etc.

And many of these folks had the judgment skills and maturity level of a 12-year-old. So I simply don't believe that EVERYONE should be allowed to carry a firearm. Individuals can be responsible. Society is not and won't ever be, IMO.

Yep, true. It just wasn't the deadliest. Either way, something like this should never happen and it's bad that we have so many example to compare it to.
