Darkside GTI 2001 Sport Build Thread

The first thing I had to do was to clean up some of the stuff that was bothering me. There was a dealer badge on the car that I wanted to get rid of and I also decided to get rid of the Toyota badge on the other side.

I then used some goo gone to get rid of the adhesive and then hit the area with some wax to protect it.

Then I wanted to clean up the plastic panel on the rear bumper. It was quite faded and dirty so I used some Back to Black on it and got it looking better.

I also want to clean up the front and back wiper blades. They are pretty faded/corroded.

You took that golf in the wrong direction. And I will never understand the dangerously skinny tires on a wide rim fad. Nice pickup though.

Wow man, love the stance on your R32. I've always had a secret love for the R32, very cool car with some tasteful mods, and even better photos!! You take those? Camera setup?

Looks like your goin to step into a thundercloud t4r as well... Pretty much the greatest 4runner color of all time! Haha welcome to the forum and I look forward to seeing what you end up with!

Thanks. I have a Nikon D7000 with Nikon 24-70mm f2.8, Tokina 11-16mm f2.8, Nikon 50mm f1.8, and a couple other cheap lenses.

Yeah camera gear is getting more expensive than car mods. Next on the list is the Nikon 70-200mm f2.8, and probably then the 85mm f1.4



The first real mods to the 4Runner are going to be a new stereo. The stock stereo sounds like it's in a tin can. I ordered a Pioneer AVH-2400BT Head Unit and some JL Audio component speakers for the front doors. I am going to see how it sounds with just those, but may end up getting some rear speakers and an amp to power everything.

I also ordered a few other little cosmetic mods, nothing major yet.

I can assure you all that the photos from the build thread that will surely follow, will be top notch. (I followed your engine build thread over on the vortex...I lurk there as well). As a fellow VW and 3rd gen owner in the SL, UT....welcome. Can't wait to see how this thing progresses.

Also, I HATE bagged cars and tire stretch, but I love your .:R (makes no sense to me either...probably just secretly jealous that I never could afford to drop my 2.slo grocery gettin' wagon :biggrin2:)

Damn those are some good photos DarkSideGTI!!

Makes me REALLY want to man-up and get a new body... my old beater isnt cutting it anymore.

I have shot a D3 with the 14-24mm, it is a great combo. For now my 11-16mm f2.8 is doing me good. Not being a pro I don't really need to step up to FF yet.

Thanks, but it's more the glass than it is the body. Put your money into nice fast glass and your proto's will improve drastically. the only reason I upgraded from the D70 to D7000 was for better high ISO performance.

I just checked out your thread, how are your LED dash lights holding up? I was thinking about going the red/white route as well.
 
So I started looking into some new wheels/tires for my truck. I am not really a fan of the stock Sport wheels. I am currently trying to decide on whether to get 16's or 17's. I will likely stick with 265's but switch to some duratrac's for better grip in snow and offroad conditions. Are 17's going to ride much rougher than 16's? Also will a 265/75/16 or 265/70/17 duratrac fit on stock suspension? I will be lifting it eventually, but may be a month or two after the new wheels/tires. As for suspension I am looking at the Tundra billy 5100's and 5125's in the rear. Are most people going with the Toytec setups or are you piecing your setups together separately? It seems it might be cheaper to piece it together yourself.
