Dash Clock not working 2000 T4R

So I took apart my dash to install a CB, and after reassembling everything works great but the clock in the center above the radio is not working....any ideas????

Did you plug it in all the way? lol

Check fuses, if not those then find a clock from a junkyard 4runner.

I am pretty sure I plugged it in all the way, and yes I did check the fuses. Maybe I need to check again, any idea which one would be for the clock? The black wiring harness on the top seems as though it would also control the hazards, which work still...not sure.

I just had the same problem after doing the taco whip. Everything else works fine except for the clock, im going to double check all the plugs tomorrow

The clocks are pretty fragile...well the part that breaks is. Sometimes taking it out, and yanking around on it is enough to make the little springs fall apart. Search "clock repair" and you'll see what needs done. (this may or may not fix your problem, but then you at least know you have a working clock, and it's not the clock that's bad)

the 99 and 00 clocks are known for going out, its not worth getting them "fixed" just look for one from a junk yard or check ebay.

Why? Once it's fixed, it's fixed. If you get a junkyard one, it could go out the next day. They are a poor design, but easily remedied by eliminating the flimsy spring contacts with soldered pins.



Like SKIDMRK and others have said....it probably is the fake socket throwing a wrench in your works.

this seems to make some sense, however I am a bit confused on what 'fake socket' means. Anybody have photos to describe what they are referring to? Are there two sockets behind there that fit the wiring harness?

I would but my camera is broke :redbrick: but for me i just had to plug the small black plug to the left of the big black plug that i believe controls the hazards, hope this helps

So am I understanding in that there are two seperate male plugs, one large (for the hazards) and one small (for the clock), of which I may just not have plugged in the one for the clock???

...because the posts earlier were leading me to believe that there are two receiving plugs and one is a 'fake'

My clock failed and I went and bought a junk yard unit. Well that was coming off and on and died, I sent that clock to a shop on eBay and for 25 bucks the clock works flawlessly.

Ya that's right. I had mine plugged into the fake. Im not sure if they are the same as the 02 runners but the correct one for me was just above the fake

if you want to pay someone to fix it, you can, not everyone is going try and fix it themself, or pay what $50 per hour for a shop to fix it, I just bought one from a yard for 5 bucks, worked untill I wrecked my 1999 a few years later

Both statements are true. The true clock socket is near the one for the hazards. The fake one is lower down on the left, IIRC. Don't overthink this, just get in there and see if there is a different place to plug the clock harness in.

Haha, no need to argue about whether to fix a clock or not, but my reasoning is this, exactly...

Sure it's only $5 at a junkyard, but time is money and I personally wouldn't waste my time going to get a junkyard clock when it can fixed to work perfectly for free (diy) or for very cheap.

I had mine plugged into the wrong one. The one for the clock, in my 2000, was a vertical one pretty much right below the hazard plug. The "fake" one is a horizontal plug down a little further.
