Dash Display Numbers to Dim To Read

Just got my new 08 T4R and find it very difficult to read the numbers on the display panel that shows average MPG, outdoor temp, etc. This occurs in bright daylight and gets even worse when wearing sunglasses.

Is this a common problem or something unique with my car??

Does anyone know of anyway to improve this problem??

Do you wear polarized sunglasses? Sometimes LCD screens can be hard to read if you view them at the wrong angle through polarized sunglasses.

That being said, I have no issues viewing mine - you have a new car, take it back to the dealer and compare the screens of other 4Runners on the lot to see if there is a difference.

Toyota should have designed the readout with a black background with illuminated amber digital display kind of like your typical alarm clock display

Yes it is difficult to read especially when the sun shines is on the display.

Need a Fix

Hate to think I will now have to drive this new 08 for the next 5 to 10 years with this problem. Didn't notice it during checkout drive.

Just strapped an LED flashlight on the center console pointed at the dash and that helped greatly!!!!! even in bright sunlight!!!

Maybe now what we need is someone to come up with a small flat bright LED panel in an enclosure that neatly attaches to a front edge of the center console, out of the way, and lights up the displays. Turns on only during the daytime with the ignition.

Any ideas??
