Dash light in Heater controls out

99 4Runner LTD and the light that illuminates the heater control temperature and inside/outside temperature is burned out. The dealer quoted us $900 and said the whole unit had to be replaced. Can this be true that a burned out light bulb is $900? Thanks for the help.

Must be a common thing with 99 LTD's just last month first one side went out then about two weeks later the other side's light went out as well.

See my post about the outside F to C change, I'm also having problems with that too unfortunately.

My Dad and I know a thing or two about electronics so if I have some time I'm thinking about pulling the whole climate control module out and doing some troubleshooting on it. It will have to wait until the spring though as it gets a little cold in Edmonton in Jan/Feb.... Thank god the climate controls are still working.

Regards,

Mike

you just need bulbs...

Same thing happened to me so I pulled out the middle console and replaced the tiny bulbs in the back, now good as new...
for under 20 bucks.

Check your bulbs first dont get ripped off!

How difficult is it to remove the center console? Are you talking about taking the whole thing out or just faceplates, etc. Any manuals on how to remove what I need to remove? Thanks. my email is [email protected]

Similar just happened to my '04 LTD 4Runner while they were installing the alarm. Don't know if they hit the bulbs or what, but two went out while they had the 4Runner.

The installer used bulbs out of an old radio because they fit just right. I told him that was fine with me. It looks just like it should.
