Dashboard bulbs and colors

Has anyone replaced the dashboard/instrument cluster lightbulbs? I find it difficult to see the instrumetn cluster on bright days and wish the gauge face was either white or the lighting was white.
Is the color of the lighting provided by colored bulbs, as in many cars with the "gel" covers...or is it built into the face plates?
I know they make white gauge faces for older 4Runners...has anyone seen them for the 4th Gens?

For the center console where the AC and information display is and the cup holder lights, those are lit by bulbs. The gauges however are lit by LEDs.

I would like to see gauge faces - white or any other color available to exchange out...

How hard is it to change the color? I wouldn't mind changing it to match my nav and radar units.

i'm not sure if it's as easy as changing out the bulb or if i really need a new face for the gauge? I just want mine to be white. It's really hard to see in the daylight. i hate that. i also dislike the fact i can never get the plastic cover spotless - there's always a smear somewhere on it. the joys of plastic.
