Dashboard DVD - Murder Trial News Story

Not sure if anyone follows the news or not, but came across this article regarding a murder trial stemming from the ALLEGED use of an in-dash dvd (that was active while the vehicle was moving) They haven't noted if the safety feature to prevent video while in motion had been bypassed or not, but the prosecutor aims to prove that the driver was distracted.

Yikes! That's why I'm installing a interlocking mechanism on my CarPC. It will disable movies and desktop applications whenever the truck is out of PARK. I agree that stuff is distracting and have no plans to use those feature while driving. The interlock is just there to comply with CA law and to cover my a** in case something bad happens.

Yep... Good thinking. What's really alarming is that even if the guy WASN'T watching a movie while he was driving, and it was just inserted in the player, he'll probably be found guilty regardless of whether he was actually watching or not since he bypassed the safety features. Driver accused of watching DVD acquitted

KENAI, Alaska (AP) -- A man was acquitted Tuesday of charges he caused a fatal crash by taking his eyes off the road while watching a movie on a DVD player mounted on his truck dashboard.
