Dashboard Fuel gauge damaged

Hey guys,

My dashboard fuel gauge isn't functioning, it marks random fuel levels.

I just changed the Fuel sending unit the one inside the tank.

And nothing... same krp.

Any idea if is there a receiving unit? where to buy?

Or should i install an external gauge? where to buy?

The fuel gauge isn't accurate anyway. I suggest just getting a scangauge 2. It displays 4 readings at a time (I use miles to empty for my gas gauge). It can read lots of stuff, like engine temp, auto tranny temp (with code from the internet), intake temp, speed, rpms, average mpgs, lots of stuff like that. And it reads CEL codes and clears them. Lots of stuff. It's about $160, and totally worth it in my book.

Oh yeah, and you can change the color of the backlighting, very cool.
 
My 99 also had a non-functioning gas guage. Now it is fixed... and still falls into the "finky" category.

Nice wrench extension !!

well is the installation easy? it can read from Infuel tank reader unit?

in other words it works like the stock gauge? i understand it does a lot more... but right now im concerned about not getting out of fuel between cars in city traffic...

tks for your suggestion...
 
Just use your tripometer to gauge your gas consumption. When you get to 275 miles, you need to get some gas.

Installation cannot be easier:
1) Open box.
2) Plug unit into the OBDII port just under the dash.
3) ...

There is no 3, that's it. There are some codes you need to get to get the miles to empty and ATF temp, but they are readily available here (FYI, I think you have to have a 99+ to get the ATF temp).

I don't think it reads the in tank gauge. It reads fuel consumption rate, you enter in your tank size, and it calculates how much fuel you have (I think that is how it works). when you fill your tank, you tell it how much gas you put in, and it calibrates itself to your exact vehicle. I think it is pretty accurate, certainly moreso than the known faulty stock gas gauge.

I think the miles to empty is exactly what you would want for driving around the city.
