dashboard rattle

I have a dashboard rattle comming from i believe the passenger airbag area and it's driving me absolutly crazy.between that and my clutch that creaks and my fifth gear that makes a high pitch noise and a 4x4 system that engages but has trouble disengaging im loosing my mind :bash: Can anyone help me about who I should turn to to fix something like the dashboard rattle,my mechanic doesnt want to mess with it in fears of making it worse.I dont know the least bit about working on an auto so someone else will definatly have to do it.any ideas?

I have the same exact noice coming from the exact same place in my dashboard. But, that's not the only noise I have. Whenever I go over railroad tracks or potholes my truck's cabin rattles with different noises. When I cruise down the highway there is a rattling coming from inside the driver's side door. These are noises that have formed over time. The fact of the matter is our 4R's are getting on in age. These are to be expected. You know the difference between in what could be a serious problem, and what is just an annoyance. These are just annoyances that we face as all owners of old vehicles do. I know this might not help you. But, I just wanted you to know that you're not alone.

I had the same (or similar) dashboard rattle near the passenger airbag area. Drove me nuts and I took half the dash apart trying to find it. I tightening everything I could get a screwdriver or a wrench on, put it all back together and it still rattled just as bad. I don't know if this will work for you but I did come up with a solution, albeit kinda getto. I took one of those rubber feet from a electronic component (i.e. a dvd player, old VCR, old CD player, etc..) and I crammed it between the dash and the windshield. Haven't heard the rattle in a couple years.

I just slap the dash a couple times, usually stops, if it doesn't i either repeat, turn the music louder, open the windows, or deal with it.

hey bri,ok I will try jamming some rubber in there.I follded up a piece of paper 6-7 times and stuck it in there with no luck.I will see if i can find something at home depot thats made of rubber to jam in there.it could be a few days but i will update after.thanks for all the help!

It bugged me for a while, but to be honest I haven't heard it in about a year. I'm sure its still there, and i'll probably hear it all day tomorrow (Thanks!!!!!). I actually just a built a fishing rod holder (2 stacked 4" pvc tubes capped and strapped to my inner wheel well "hump"), and so now the rattling of the fishing rods has completely overtaken all other rattles in the truck for the time being.

Dash rattles, huh can't hear anything over the sound of my exhaust and tires. Seriously though the rubber foot in the dash/windshield gap is probably your best bet. I had a lot more dash rattles after a few high speed bumpy sessions on Mojave Rd and Death Valley.
I guess you could always try some of that expanding foam between the parts that are squeeking. If that doesn't work put a little in each ear.:hatsoff:

Worked like a charm, THANKS! I ended up using a rag and stuffed it down with a pry bar. I also stuffed a rag between the rear seat latches and the eyelets. *knock on wood* no more squeaks! :thanks:
