Another thread said to pull the emergency brake up one notch. It's not actually engaging the brake, but it does shut off the lights. Give that a shot.

i couldnt find the thread that i found it on. i have a 2000 and there is a gray connector between the drivers fender and battery. its kinda tucked down in there but unplug that and you are allset. if you want to pu them back just plug back in. depending on the year of your in may or may not have it i think.
