Daystar 2.5 1.5 Leveling kit Install 2007 XREAS

So I am new to the forum, but I have been doing a lot or reading and lurking. We have always owned Toyotas and just got a 2007 Sport Edition 4runner. I have decided to go with the Daystar 2.5 front and 1.5 rear leveling kit as it will probably never be going off road (that’s what my ‘96 is for) . Besides having the alignment done, should I worry about the differential drop? Also, does anybody know of a good shop that would install for a decent price near Bend OR? The only place I have found so far that will deal with the XREAS wants about $575 just to install the kit. Thanks in advance!

One other thing I am still not clear on with the Daystar kit, is it just a spacer that bolts to the top of the strut or does it go on top of the coil and do you have to use a coil compressor to do the install? Thanks again!

You don't need a diff drop with the daystar kit. There are two types of daystar kits, the topout or preload kit. The preload requires a spring compressor but the topout does not since it goes on top of the strut tower.

Daystar has switched their kit to a topout only. I believe Wheelers Off Road still sells the preload type. However, even with the topout spacer kit, you will still need a spring compressor. The spacer goes on top, but you must disassemble the strut to install longer bolts, the factory ones aren't long enough after you add the spacer. Some kits bolt on and have new studs built in, these don't require the spring compressor. The daystar, and most other name brands kits, aren't designed like this.

Ok, so from all my reading I have been building up the courage to do it on my own, but now I am really confused because alot of the write ups I have read they don't mention using a spring compressor for the topout.

All of the name brand spacer lifts (Daystar, Toytec, Cornfed) require a spring compressor to install. I've heard that Daystar changed their design on some of their kits to include extensions to prevent this, but I've not found anyone who's been able to get one of these rumored kits. In order to get one that doesn't require a spring compressor, you'll either pay a lot (I want to say either Revtek or Truxx makes one) for name brand, or go with something off of ebay, like this one. You should be able to see the difference pretty easily, the ebay one bolts on and has new bolts, therefore you don't have to install longer studs.

I will say this, dealing with the spring compressor isn't near as bad as it's made out to be. As long as you have an impact wrench and take your time, you'll have no problems.

I just confirmed with another member, Daystar has changed the 2.5/1.5 kit to an "easy install" kit. They now include stud extensions in place of the longer studs. So, if you can get one of the new Daystar kits, it can be installed without a spring compressor.

That is good to know. All the price quotes to install it so far have been around $600 so I am going to install it myself. A little worried, but there is a ton of great info on here so hopefuly it all goes well!

Just ordered the daystar leveling kit....how good are the directions that come w/ it in the box? I've watched the youtube videos on the installs and read the install DIY thread, but am still skeptical at the end of the day. I'd hate to get to a part and not be able to pull the truck out of the garage b/c I've torn it apart to much.
