Depends.
1. It will not destroy your truck. It is a easy, beginner way to get into off roading. It will give you a decent lift to put some larger tires on. It will not stress your stock components, when used for light trails, overly. It will subject them to greater than normal stress, but offroading does that to begin with.
2. The spacer lift is cheap enough that it is a nice place to start, budget wise. Many people start here to see if they like offroading or will actually use it as such. Before you go out and spend a ton of money on a full suspension upgrade, feel it out.
3. A full out suspension upgrade, with new front end components designed for off road experience will always be a "better" off road capable machine.... but many consider the spacer to be the entry level.
Finally. If you ONLY want a nice lift and bigger tires, then yea. Spacer will work fine. I haven't seen anything that suggest in normal, onroad driving, they day star reduces stock components longevity.
I hope that helps.
