Daystar 2.5 Question

Hey guys and gals, long time lurker here! Quick question about the daystar lift on my 2008.

I am seriously considering getting the new daystar 2.5/2 spacer kit installed. However i have some concerns about the overall quality/ long term safety associated with this product. I will not be doing a lot of serious off-roading (light ranchland in TX) but will be doing a fair amount of towing a 4500lb boat during the summer months.

Is this topout spacer something I can rely on giving me a good esthetic and functional resusult for 3-4 years or will it be putting undo stress on the suspension system?

There's 2 styles of Daystar 2.5" lift. The old style, which has been discussed many times here and is well liked, is the preferred kit. It's still available. What you want is the kit that offers pre-load and topout spacing to provide at total of 2.5". The topout only kit may allow for extension that stresses the balljoint. Lot's of good rationale discussed here: http://www.top4runners.com/ja/2007/lift.html

Depending on what you tow you may want to consider some airbags for the rear springs. Click on the link in my sig & search Firestone and AirLift.

Chris , Im not sure but thought that kit was not longer available , but could be wrong. (the one with the top out and preload) is what I'm talking about.
 
From another thread (within the last 30 days) it was concluded that both are available and both are continuing to be manufactured, IIRC. I didn't pay super-close attention as I am very happy with my setup. Having said that I think the details were: 1) You have to specifically request the kit that uses preload and top spacing. The other trick was something about looking for the FJC kits rather than the T4R kits... There was some glitch in the catalogging hence the FJC thing...

I love the look of JA's 4R, so I decided to order the "old" Daystar Kit. To further clarify Daystar is still manufacturing the kit with preload and topout spacers.
Can't wait to get it installed to post some pics!

Good to know the kit is still available , although I've decided to go with a 12" body lift .:biggrin2:

I JUST had the 2" topout spacer installed. I ordered it from Wheelers, about $50 w/ shipping and tax. Big Brand Tire installed it for $210, with alignment & tax.

I lOVE it and wish I did it earlier. Best $260 I spent on the 4Runner. There is no difference in ride, other than what you would expect with the center of gravity being higher. The suspension feels the same though, which was important to me and why I went with the topout rather than preload spacer. The 4runner is now level, and it looks the way it was supposed to look. I dont think anyone unfamiliar with lifts etc will think its lifted, but it definitely looks a ton more aggressive. Oh and I still have stock tires, but planning on getting some 265/70R17's when the xterrains wear out. I recommend you do as I did and get the OLD style daystar lift, and start with just the topout spacer. If you want more lift then you can explore options that add preload, as those will firm up your ride

Oh and yes ill get some pics soon!
