Daystar front leveling kit help...

Hey guys,

Did some searching but didn't come up with the help I need. Trying to install the leveling kit spacers and I cannot get the front struts out... Do I need to compress the springs to get the strut out? I followed the directions supplied to a T but I still cannot get the damn thing out. I do have the X-RAES system but from other posts I see that the system isn't an issue.

Any help or pictures of your install would be great. I watched a video on Youtube but the install was on a 2 wheel drive and I have an all wheel drive. It seems like the lower A arm won't go down enough with the axle connected...

Have you tried inserting your jack between the frame and the LCA and raising it?

That's the easiest way to get the LCA to lower enough to get the strut out & back in from my experience.

edit- a pry bar also works but the jack is easier if you're alone as it keeps constant pressure on the LCA

Loosening the nuts at the top of the shock is all you need to do there BUT loosening the alignment bolts so the whole assembly drops is the key. Once you do so, the shock will drop and at that point it should tilt your way so that you can place the spacer on over the three bolts.

GOOD LUCK- It's super easy. It's just the unknown that's a little intimidating, but you'll get it.
 
Thanks for the quick reply guys. I'm not a complete idiot as I have already removed the exhaust manifolds on this thing, welded them up and installed them again because they cracked I just for the life of me couldn't get the damn strut out.

Clout, do you mean remove the LCA all together?

Well once all of the bolts are loosened I had to step on the rotor in a stomping motion to unstick the frozen parts.

So it's loosen the top bolts for the shock-
then the two larger bolts for the LCA come all the way out

Then step on the rotor.
 
I did mine last weekend, a pry bar definitely helps for getting the strut out and alot when you go to put it back in.

after you take the sway bar out and undo the 3 nuts at the top and the bottom strut bolt it should slide out with a bit of prying/pushing down on the LCA. with the spindle out of the UCA my LCA dropped down quite a bit.

make sure you loosen off the bracket that is holding the xreas line, that'll give you some more slack.
 
+1 for the pry bar to get the shock assembly all out once you have all of the bolts free. Mine had started to "rust" themselves to the top of the shock towers.
 
I pushed down on the LCA but I guess I didn't push hard enough. I didn't want to pull the axle apart or damage something.

I had to get a 6 foot 2x4 and have a buddy stand on it to pry the lca out of the way...and that worked like a charm...although if you have a fat friend go to a 2x6

I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE!!!!!! Oh thank God!

I'm sorry you're in this position man. I tried installing my daystar kit 4 times, broke 2 ratchet handles with a 6 foot pipe for leverage, battled rust the whole way, and broke my finger when my impact wrench got away from me.

I just gave up and sold my spacer kit to a member here. I'm in the process of getting the Bilstein 5100's and FJ coils to level the front and raise the rear a little bit. XREAS is great... But it's limiting. Oh well.

Well I finally got them in. I had to take a 6' long digging iron and stand on it to get the strut out. I also put the 1" spacers to bring the wheels out flush with the fenders.

Truck looks good now. I also like the fact that I look out now and not down.

LOL, hey got the front Daystar spacers you sent me installed today. Had some issues with the passenger side, but got everything install. Going to do the rear tomorrow.

Glad someone finally got that damn set of spacers installed! I wasn't the first owner of those hahahaha.

Please PM me some pictures so I can see what I missed out on! Lol
