Daystar Lifting Questions....

O.k. It's about that time. My tires are winding down and , and in about 5k more I will probably be replacing them This is the time I said I woudl initiate the lift process. Only thing is that I had many questions. So if anyone can help, I'd realy appreciate.

1) How well does the Daystar lift level out the 4R?

2) Will it eventually settle, with a sag in the rear? I have heard from a couple of people that lifting the front tends to distribute weight the the rear, and eventually cause a sag.

3) I love my 20" Enkies. If I wanted slightly bigger tires, are they available for 20" rims? (This one is probably the stupid question of the day. 20" rims and lifting, what a tool, ha.)

4) Should I probably be seeking front spacers instead, and just focus on leveling? I just really love the way a lifted truck looks. especially next to another SUV.

5) If money wasn't a issue, would you go with the Daystar or the Revtek?

6) Maybe BULLDOG can answer this one best. What is the over all install time? How difficult is it to do by yourself?

Following Bulldog's write-up, the installation does not take that long, and isn't too hard to do alone.

1) It does a pretty good job of leveling it out.
2) The Daystar lift settles like 1/4" front and rear. All lifts settles a litttle bit after installation.

4) Your choice. I think a lift front and rear is better. See ansswer to 5.
5) Daystar will gove you a milder lift and closer to stock ride. If money was no object I would get Hoes and TC UCAs in the front and OME in the rear. For just on road lift I would say stick to Daystar if you like the stock ride. For a bit more than the Revtek you can get full OME now, since you dont have XREAS it shouldn't be a big deal at all. For extra bling and flexibility you can get coil-overs (Downey, SAW and DOnahoe), the advantage is that you can set the height in the front to your liking. You can then just add a spacer in the rear (if you are on road mor than not) or get OME in the rear (offroad and more heavy duty). I would say in order of best to average and highest to lowest price for coil-overs is Donahoe, SAW and then Downey. You might also want to check out Cornfed or Toytec for aluminum spacer lifts. Cornfed has been very slow to respond though, but people seem to love the quality.
6) If you use my write-up count on 8 hours or so on your own. You can do it yourself, but I recommend you get a factory service manual or download the relevant suspension pages from http://techinfo.toyota.com/ Make sure you have the right tools before you start, and also an impact wrench will save you like an hour easy. If you are a very experienced wrencher count on less time. But a full day is normally good so you are not rushed.

What do you need the lift for?? Just more ride height and cosmetic or light, medium, heavy duty off road. Also is your offroad fast or slow and then sand, mud, rocks or expedition??

It's primarily cosmetic and light off roading. I love the look of lifted trucks. My old Tacoma was lifted, and I'm in the process of talking my girlfriend into lifting her 05 Tacoma. I work on construction sites, and to have to unpaved roads, rocks, and sand/mud. Nothing major.

Bulldog, is there a link to your write up? It seems daystar is going to be the best for me. The closest to a stock suspension, but a nice size lift.

Were there any problems at all with the Daystar lift?

Where can I find information about tires?

worst case, i still have my factory 17"s.

What is the widest tire that i can fit with a Daystar lift with out rubbing?
32"s 33"s...etc.

since you have 20's i'm not sure what will fit but 33's prob won't. even if you want 33's those tire prices will be a monster on 20's.

i'd say 32's are the biggest you'd want to go but that doesn't leave you much w/ any sidewall though so that means no offroading.

look into some nitto tires a/t tires.

I was looking on tirerack.com and saw 305/50/20 they measure 32" and 285/55/20 which measure about 32.3".

Tirerack doesn't offer Nitto, but I have heard good things about them.

My only concern is with the Daystar lift, will 32" tires really fill out my wheel well nicely w/o rubbing?

anything larger than 32's and you'll rub. even with 32's you might run at full lock (turns) going fast.
