Wow, it's been a long time since I visited the forum!

Anyway, question to those that have had leveling kits installed. How much did it cost? The cheapest I can find for Sport Edition in Denver area is $629. I find that to be really expensive! Any advice on where to get the kit installed would be greatly appreciated. Installing the kit myself is not an option, I'm not willing to attempt it.

Maybe I should scrap the XREAS and do a complete suspension kit from Toytec.

Thanks for the reply. I know, we do those tech sessions with motorcycles all time, they're a lot of fun, and I always learn a ton. I've tried to do the meet and greet on here before, and it didn't really workout. I'm not sure there are that many members along the front range. If there is anybody out there, PLEASE let me know!

I just got a quote to have it done for $340 but with me signing a waiver of liability in case they damage the x-reas. I'd ask around your area you may find somebody willing to lend a hand. You may wanna check out slee off road and see if/how much they would charge for install

I'm in the front range and plan on doing my install myself. I'm not going the spacer route though, I'm going to go with new coils and stick with my stock shocks.

I'm probably not going to do this install until January (I'm driving 2,500 miles in December and would rather keep my decent gas mileage for it), but I will let you know how the home-install goes when I get around to doing it.

Hey there!!! In Denver myself and also looking to have someone install the 2.5/1.5 daystar leveling kit on my 08 urbanrunner. Just got a quote from a ALLAMERICAN 4 wheel drive for around 320-350. Not bad considering 4wheel parts was trying to grab 550 from me.

Id love to do it myself but A. don't have the tools and B. don't want to risk ruining the XREAS system.

What year is your 4RUNNER? Sport? Limited?

Anyone else in Denver want to lend me a hand?

Glock, where are you heading? We're doing a holiday road trip and I wanted to get new tires and leveling kit installed before we go. My Coopers are shot, and they are stock size. We've been stranded in Kansas because I-70 was closed due to weather, it stinks, and it's even worse with less than good tires.


Bundles09, thanks for posting ALLAMERICAN, their prices seems more in line! I'll probably stop in there, I've heard good things about them. Sounds like we talked to the same guy at 4WD Parts, that's what they quoted me too. I had high hopes for Offroad Innovations, but he wanted $629. When it comes time to replace the entire suspension, I'll for sure look him up though. Does ALLAMERICAN do tires too?

Hey T4RBoarder, Slee wouldn't touch a leveling kit. They wanted to sell me a complete suspension package.

Are you watching the weather? The mountains are getting dumped on as I type this. Looks like a powder day tomorrow! I'm assume you snowboard b/c of your user id!!!!

doing the install really is not that big of an undertaking. Just give yourself about 6 hours to take your time and follow step by step what is said. Tools are very minimal at best. You need vice grips, metric set of sockets(u will only use a 12,15,17&19), rachet, 14mm wrench..cannot stress that 14mm wrench enough, a jack, a set of stands and some lock tite. That's basically it. the rear is a breeze and should only take about 20-30 minutes but the front is what will take most of your time.

You will also need the torque settings as well.
Honestly, it's not a really big ordeal at all. Just be patient.

Thanks, that's a good link, hadn't seen that one. Everybody makes it look so easy! If a partner in crime steps up and wants to help, I'd be more likely to attempt.

On a side note. How long does the factory suspension usually last? I'm sitting at 70k, and just wondering if I should scrap the XREAS and buy all new.

not sure how long the factory susp. should last but i changed mine around 90k to the FJ spring/shock with toytec 1/2" spacer up front, gained over 2". I'd say, if you are not leaking, then just do the spacers. If i lived close, i'd stop by and lend a hand but with the snow and cold...i think i will stay here close to the beach.

I'm sitting at about an average of 5/32" of tread. If there are any serious storms, I will plan my trip around it as my dates are pretty flexible. So, I'd rather not get 12-13mpg over 2,500 miles for that trip. I just plan on installing the lift and tires when I get back.

I'd be happy to help you out, veloindy. But keep in mind that I have never done this before myself. I know it is not a very tedious task, so it shouldn't be that hard. I am somewhat handy in the garage and why the hell pay someone for something that you can do fairly easily yourself?

There you go, we've got our lift/leveling session! If you guys are serious and want to get together, I'm in! I've got a nice selection of tools, and garage/driveway. Although the garage is too small to work in. I'm on the NE side of Denver.

I do board but with cracking my board last season and a seven day work schedule I highly doubt I'll get out this season :-/ and one day I will make it out west, stuff over here just doesn't compare.

I vote installing it yourself, it's really not that hard.

Working with X-REAS makes things a little "interesting" because you can't really remove the whole shock assembly away from the vehicle and you need to be careful not to pinch a hydraulic line, but if you're just doing the "Easy Install" top-out spacer, it's no big deal.

A few hints that I didn't see on many tutorials from when I did mine:

1) break out your bottle jack and use it (and a towel!) to push your upper control arm down to make room for the new assembly.

2) disconnecting the lower A-arm from the upper near the spindle will also go a long way (2 x 19mm bolts I think?) towards getting the new shock assembly with the spacer in place. Once it's fitted, just use a floor jack and a piece of wood to slowly raise the lower A-arm back into place and bolt it up.

3) buy a good breaker bar for some of the nuts that like to stick, and buy a good low-profile rachet and socket set. The inside-nut holding the shock assembly in place is a ***** to get to without it (and even with it!), but it can be done if you take your time and be patient.

4) The rear is easy-peasy, but I hit a slight hang up when I couldn't seem to drop the axle far enough to wedge the springs back in place with the spacer. Disconnect the swaybar from the rear axle and suddenly you'll find yourself with plenty of play.

Good luck! Seriously, don't dump hundreds of dollars into this, it's really a DIY job if you give yourself some time to do it. A second person isn't really required, but may make things go faster unbolting things and bolting them back up.

Hey Bundles09, I thought I would let you know that 4Wheel parts is running a 25% off all installations through the end of the month. They quoted me $270. and the Daystar kit is $143. The alignment is $135. I'm probably going to get tires there too, just can't decide on brand. The C rated Nittos are sale for $149.

The alignment is $135.......does that come with vaseline to ease the pain of being ripped off?

Just get a lifetime alignment from a local auto shop (firestone, midas, discount tire, etc... not pep boys) Mine was about $150 from Firestone.

Pay once, free alignments for the life of the vehicle!
