DCH Toyota, Freehold NJ

I took my truck to DCH Toyota of Freehold for an oil change and tire rotation on 2/25/10. I brought my own oil and filter (both Mobil 1).

At first I was told that the oil change would cost me $22.95. I mentioned that 2 weeks earlier I was charged $12.95 for an oil change on GX470 using my oil and filter AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP!!! The answer was - Ok, we'll match that price, but will charge you an extra $1.00 for collapsible washer... :wtf: Talk about "nickel and diming"...

I drove over 500 miles since 2/25.

Fast forward to Wednesday, 3/10/10. I took my truck to my father-in-law's shop in Queens to have the brakes replaced (stealer wanted $190 just for the front). We put the truck on the lift, came over to the FT RT tire, and :jaw drop: found 2 loose lug-nuts... In fact they were so loose that I took them of BY HAND!!! I looked at all other wheels, and EACH WHEEL had 1 loose lug-nut. That's FIVE all together. You can't make that $h1t up...

I called the dealership and spoke with a service manager. He apologized, said that he would address the issue with the technician involved, etc... His apology sounded like "I can say sorry so you get off my back".

WTF??? I drive my 3 year old in this truck EVERY DAY on the way to his day care. I take it to the mountains to go skiing with my older boy. I just don't understand how can the tech be so careless when servicing a vehicle... If you forget to put the oil in the engine, the worst that can happen the engine will crap out. But if the tire falls off while you are doing 75 on the freeway, the results may be drastically different...

I just needed to vent... Thanks for listening...

Did they rotate the tires?

If the lugs gotten so loose that the wheel will fall off, you'll notice a lot of wobbling and vibration. At any rate, glad you caught them before anything happened.

Maybe start having your oil changes done at your father in-law's.

its funny that it happen in toyota of freehold. there like one of the best dealerships in the tri-state. They have a president award which toyota doesnt give out easily but will take it away easy and they had it for awhile.

Not trying to brag but my grandfathers dealership has gotten the presidents award for over the past 20 years.

Yes, they rotated the tires. I was not really worried about suddenly loosing the wheel (although that happened to me years ago with my 1977 Bronco), but I was really pissed about the carelessnes of their tech. Considering all the negative publicity Toyota received recently, they should cross the Ts and dot the Is.

I do take both trucks to my father-in-law for more expensive maintenance, but it isn't worth the hassle of driving for at least an hour (each way) and $20 in tolls to get a free oil change.

your grandfather owns a toyota or lexus dealership, because thats what i'm talking about. I dont know what other companies standards are but with toyota you must be in green in parts, service and sales for a certian period of time and service departments are rarely in green.

I have had a bad experience with their service around 7 years ago. We service our Toyota's at Ray Catena Lexus now. I refuse to have my truck serviced at Galaxy Toyota (where I bought it from) because they don't follow up or return calls. They are also more money than Lexus! They used to be great 2 years ago before the manager left.

ray catena is known for there awesome service, did you check out there waiting area WOW. galaxy is only good for buying cars there service and parts suck. I was with toyota for years and all i kept hearing is freehold toyota is among the best and when you seen other outfits across jersey and ny you'll agree sadly but ray catena is in aleague of there own.

Their waiting area is beautiful. All of his dealers are in a league of their own but you pay for it in the price of your new car. Sales at Galaxy has always been great until they got rid of the original GM and the two salesmen I used. Parts was good up until a few months ago until they got rid of my writer. She was the only writer I know who could diagnose the most complex problem without even seeing my truck.

i hate galaxy but sometimes i take my families lexus's to catena and i really dont mind waiting but yes you pay for it.
