DD Hitch Mount LED reverse pod...worth it?

I have aftermarket taillights. The reverse lights are "meh..." I think they're better than the OEM reverse lights but I would like a bit more. The "Tails as Turns" mod is not an option for my lights.

I'm interested in feedback from anyone who has experience with Diode Dynamics' Hitch Mount LED pod reverse light. I like that it's pNp and should offer light lower to the ground. I do tow occasionally and would need to remove it. Is this a pain in the arse? So, is it worth the money?

NOTE: the DD reverse light kit is more involved than I want to get. If I'm going that far, I'll save $200+ and install flush mounted lights in the bumper with a custom harness.

get brighter license plate lights maybe?

Bright license plate lights washout the backup camera and do not put usable light on the ground behind the vehicle.

Yeah, having to remove it to use the hitch is a deal killer for me

Again, I don't tow anything of substance with my 4runner but a handful of times a year so not that big of a deal to me. The harness adapter looks like it makes plugging in the light more accessible than the trailer. I find the location of the lighting receptacles ridiculous on this thing. Having to use an extension and crawl under the vehicle is a big gripe for me.

So, anyone with actual experience with this thing have anything to provide?
