DDM Tuning HID's + Foglights

curious to where in socal are you at.. i'm in san diego and i never had any problems with the cops with my hid.. but then again i have projectors on both my rides so it doesn't emit much glare.. i also have hids on my fogs, but that i turn off the moment i'm following a 5-0.. i'm using 6000k on all my hids

Huntington Beach. I had a 99 BMW 528i and had updated headlights with projectors and the angle eyes. I had 8k in there and it didn't blind anyone! But he made me pop my hood and he looks for a DOT number or whatever, as an illegal intake was sitting right there. So he wrote me a fix it ticket for the HIDS and i've been stopped for LED tail lights. I can't get a ticket for anything because of my (fingers crossed) future job so I don't want to draw any attention to me.

If you're replacing the entire lens housing with a DOT-approved housing designed to reflect/project an HID light source using D2S or D2R bulbs, then yes, it's legal. This is also normally prohibitively expensive.

I'm referring to re-based bulbs designed to fit into a non-HID housing, like 99% of what's sold on the internet. These are not, and woefully underperform the optics of a proper halogen bulb in the same housing. Note that brightness is far from the only performance metric in this scenario.

you don't need to replace lense housing, you just retrofit (mount) projectors inside of these housings from well known and best performing factory HID equiped vehicles such as S2K, LS430, TL, FX, TSX etc. They all come with D2S or D4S bulbs only. Thats the way I choose, but good luck trying to convince other 99%, this topic been beaten to death all over the web :cry2:

Then the projectors need to be DOT approved and have that said somewhere on the light housing. ANYWAY thanks for the pictures/advice. I wonder if anyone has retro fitted offroad lights into the fog light location.

well, 8000k are almost bluish in color, you'll definitely will be attracting cops.. as far as the led tails, i call BS on this one.. my g35 coupe and 4runner has oem led tails.. heck almost all new cars coming out has leds everywhere..

Before you all start I know welcome to 2008, but I just mounted my DDM tuning HID kit. I got 55w 8000k. WOW.

Those things are bright. I should have been this a long time ago.

Anyway thanks to all that have posted about their HIDs.

Get the slim 55 watt. I have 6000k and love them, as low beams. DDM Tuning has great customer service too. How are the 3000k in foglights? I don't know if that would look weird in a black 4runner. pics anyone?

I'm planning on 6 or 8000K. Should i buy the wiring harness with them, or just the basic stuf?

I didn't get the wiring harness and now is fine. I would nor recommend the 55w system. It is just too bright. I am thinking about replacing my ballast with 35 w ballast.

I just want to follow along with the convo. Do you have projectors? It makes a difference if you do especially running 55w hids. And I'm planning on using the headlight 35w hid to the fogs and buying a 55w for the headlight.
