DDM tuning HID's

thinking about getting these for my 99'. anyone here use these, I had them in my previous vehicle and I liked them just curious how they perform on 4runners...i'll be going with the 55w 5K

I ran them for about 4.5 years before i did the projector retrofit. For the price, they are definitely worth it. I did have to replace the harness about 2 years ago since the relay box got wet and corroded but they worked fine other than that.

Also, go with the 35w. 55w is going to be blinding everyone without a projector retrofit.

I like the DDM kits. Although 4500k is the best IMO, from my experience owning 6k, 5k, 4500k, and 3k bulbs. Living in Oregon like you do, I noticed that the super "white" colors such as the 5k tend to suck in the rain at night. If you go with a bit lower temp, it will put more light on the road.
I must agree on going with the 35w kit vs the 55w.

Is that Hi & Lo beam? I've been looking at these and other kits but am worried about using HID on the Highs (i have my highs on and off a lot driving here).

Did the DDMs take long to warm up? and how did they handle repeatedly being turned on and off?

The Bi-xenon name is actually a little misleading. All Bi-xenon means is you have HID's for both high and low beams. All Bi-xenon setups (that i am aware of) are single bulbs that either move or have a cutoff shield that blocks part of the light bulb on low beam.

So, without projectors you still had high and lows ... and flashing from low to high in this instance would be fine? but flashing from nothing might cause problems?

Yep still had the same high and low. The difference between the 2 isn't as big since its the same bulb thats always on. The light is just thrown further with the high beams. Its still brighter than halogens though. No issues with switching back and forth since the same bulb is always lit. Just the solenoid moving the bulbs position.

I went with the same set up as you a couple years ago and liked that I could see a lot more of the road. I didn't do the DRL mod until 6 months after install so I think that may have contributed to a shorter life span of the bulbs/ballast.
I bought the 35w kit to replace the 55w kit and honestly they are both about the same.

Easy to install mod, go for it...you'll love it!

I agree with steezemcqueen, go with 5000k or 4500k...I personally went with the 5k

I had nothing but problems with DDM's poor quality HID assemblies. I am now running the old school halogens. I went through 4 sets. They even sent me used stuf for my warranty exchanges. After the 4th failure and DDM ignoring me after numerous attempts of contact, I gave up. Their customer service needs some work to say the least

DDM sucks I have had mondo problems in the past, if you cant afford to do a proper HID conversion with a retrofit from the Retrofit Source, then I would recommend VVME I have had good luck with their stuff. Don't go 55W tho because it will blind the crap out of every one...

I would try calling your local bodyshops. They might have a bunch of factory damaged headlamp assemblies laying around, see if you can buy a pair for a few bucks to do a retrofit with.
