DDM Tuning Saber LED for DRL / High

Looking for help- high beams

I recently contacted Diode Dynamics concerning the low voltage on our DRL , this is the response I received and would like to know if these would actually work for the 4 runner?

You're welcome! Our SL1 will operate at a lower output as long as your vehicle gives a PWM signal to lower the brightness. If the vehicle gives a voltage drop to lower brightness then it will not work. We are starting to test vehicles for this functionlity and confirmed Honda's and Fords to work without any issues but on most Subaru's this dimmed output level will not work.

Have you read this thread at all? Multiple discussions about the flickering the PWM causes. So yes, the 4Runner uses PWM and not an actual lower voltage.

Anyone try out the 3k color with the DDM Sabers ? Really tempted to try it out.
Would look awesome with a 3k DRL and be useful as a high beam.

Just installed the 50w Saber at DDM’s recommendation. They didn’t trip any CANBUS errors without the harness but they do flicker in DRL mode. The flicker is very fast and reminds me of a refresh rate on an old computer monitor (It’s not a random flicker). Although I thought it would annoy me I tried them for a few days and I’m not bothered by it anymore. Hope this helps.

Yes, I had another brand of LED high beams + low beams and returned both kits. High beams looked good but the DRL flicker annoyed the hell out of me. Glare and poor light positioning was present on the lows. I think the only viable option is to disable the DRL or link them to the parking lights, retrofit the low beam projectors to LED projectors, and swap out to high powered high beam LEDs. or install HIDs.

I was looking at these but they are very $$$.

Also, if you are not using them as DRL (I’ve disabled them as I use a switchback turn signal & fog DRL) do you still need resistors &/or a decoder to get them to function as high beams without a dash error?

There is no dustcap on the high beam location.

Just ordered the DDM 50W Saber 9005's for my high beams. Hopefully there are not any overheating issues. I will post some pictures and thoughts on the install in a few days. Is everyone still enjoying their DDM's? Overall I see a lot of people like them with little/no issues.

i havent had any overheating or any other issues for that matter with my set. i had the 36w set prior to the 50w and never had any issues with those either. in fact i dropped them into my wifes acura and they are still going strong.
