My Intel board says the new 2 GB MB is running at 266, not 400??? yes, along side some Muskin black. Is 'Ultra' junk memory??? total: 3 GB MB

I'm running a 2.4C/800 bus CPU. with Mushkin DDR2-400 it was fine (w/1.5 GB MB). Added the Ultra and on boot, it said it dropped to 266 (w/3.0 GB MB). The Ultra was marked DDR2-400, thought they were a good company. System still shows 2.4 CPU and 3.0 RAM. I like the 3.0 GB, but maybe I should go back to all quality Mushkin at 1.5 GB MB. ??? thanks

I think its normal. My DDR2's are running at 266mhz...because I have 533 FSB. So 266 x 2 = 533.

If you have a 2.4 processor? though you have 800 FSB, running DDR2 at 800 IMO is overkill..and hard to achieve in a DIY machine.

My guess is, your board may have selected a stable speed(which is 266) based on timings voltage and clock.. and the speed where both memory modules are compatibly working.:)

sorry, forgot to mention. this is dual-channel. so 400x2, my 800 bus. Mushkin black is quality, so is Ultra junk? The Ultra WAS going into a 2 slot MB motherboard soon. not sure now. I do not have any other boards handy to test it. life, so much fun. ran

well, dual channel. 2 x Ultra and 2x Mushkin, all DDR2-400. This was a high end Intel motherboard in it's day. guessing the Ultra is NOT. The Crucial site? did not see this IBM I am on right now correctly. guess I could jump into 'timings', but I feel better tossing the ultra out. thanks.

Just brought up a Intel Utility, shows DDR320 and 3072 MB with Ultra stilll in there. Will try a few combinations and see if I can get DDR400 back.

I now have less than 3 GB, 2560 MB of Ultra and Mushkin. Still DDR320. With all 1.5 GB of Mushkin I have DDR400. so this Ultra is JUNK memory? guess so. beware

Borgzman, I see your point, not necessarily the same size, but all quality MB. For years I ran different size pairs. It may be a while before the other Project Machine is up and test the Ultra in it. It will be running the Extreme Prescott CPU. thanks for all the help guys. Ran

Yes, we can install a 1gig and a 2gig.. but to fully take advantage of the dual channel support, it has to be identical modules.

Try exchanging the modules, if the mushkin is currently installed in slot 1 and the ultra in slot 2, exchange their position and see how cpu z detects.

CPU Z didn't detect a memory in slot 2 in one of my computer?? but it can detect the total ram..

so lets see yours, if it makes changes..

OK, 4 slots, slot 1-Mushkin, and paired to Slot 3 Slot 2&4, Ultra and is coming up DDR320. I too was hoping the Mushkin would take it up to DDR400. too bad. back to all Mushkin--happy. thanks, ran

Spoke to soon, I get Blue Screens with all 4 populated. Down to 1 GB MB and all is well. bad slot possible? Swapped some MB and still first channel is OK. life. (I was jumping straight into BIOS before). ran

I GB MB barely moves. Looking for Mushkin or OCZ. Any others quality I can count on?? bad experience with Corsair and Ultra so far. thanks.
