Dead Antenna Motor

Hey Everyone,

I have a 2001 Toyota 4Runner SR5 2wd. The motor on the antenna is dead (no noise or anything when you turn it on and the dealer confirmed it needs a new motor).

Instead of spending a couple hundred bucks to replace the motor I was just going to replace the antenna with a stationary antenna. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I found this article: http://www.4runners.org/writeups/whip/index.html

Is this the best way to do it? Is there a better antenna to use or a better method of replacing it?

Thanks!
Jeremy

that is a good writeup by Bob

The Tacoma fixed mast antenna is highly coveted by some.

You could likely just find a cheap motor if you want to go that route-rerunning the antenna cable is no picnic from what I read.

If you have the part number you may want to shop online for it,

trdparts4u.com likely has it much cheaper than your local dealership. They beat mine everytime.

If you want to go used there are probably a few of us out here yearning to get rid of our motorized units.

Or find a part out at a local junkyard.

$75 if you want mine. $100 with the mast and all cables.

I bet you can find a cheaper one.

Remember that Bob is a 98SR5, I am a 99 SR5- it is completely possible there are variations, check all your parts thoroughly.
