Dealer changes oil filter from the top on V8

The protective shield is a great feature.

I had an oil change completed (not at the dealer) and they neglected to replace the shield. I had to go back twice to retrieve all the parts they forgot to put back on.

When replaced, they must have used an Air tool. It broke the head off one bolt and spun the Hex bolt smooth on another.

Recovery "procedure" must follow.

Good thing they weren't doing brakes...

I joined this list and will do more work myself. In terms of mistakes made, I feel as though I can't do much worse.

I have only tried to remove the filter from the bottom , but i think now, I'm going to try the top removal too.


Also...we decided to get a (2006)Jeep Grand cherokee (v6) as a second car for the wife.. well they put the filter right front and center of the engine...and there is this little plastic tray/maze that catches the oil and directs it away from all other parts and drops it straight through to the bottom where you put your oil pan...i was very impressed with the design...for an american car

I am ~6' tall and weigh 210 lbs. I lift weights. I am not skinny nor am I fat. I merely stand on a stool and reach down to the filter and remove it. Yes, you will need to have about 3 buckets ready to collect the oil when it runs off but it is far easier than taking of that fricking skid plade that is a PIA to get back on.

I looked at the view from the top to see the oil filter and I don't see how its possible, no matter how small your arms and hands are to get at and remove the oil filter on a GX.

Did you stick your arm down and try to grab the filter?

It really isn't that hard.
