Dealer Didn't change my filter

Well, I took my 2010 v6 4 runner to the dealer for its first oil and filter change. When I got home I checked the oil only to find it was 3/4" over full. I sucked out about 6 oz and the oil appeared to be very dark brown like oil that has been used for 5000 miles. Even with 6 oz removed the oil is still 1/4 " over full. I put the truck up on blocks and found the oil filter wasn't changed, I think.
Next day:
Here is the rest of the story. I just couldn't live with the thought that the filter might not have been changed, so I bought a new filter and o-rings and gaskets and of course 7 qts of 0w/20 mobil 1. total cost of $65. I found an o-ring missing on the drain plug on the oil filter housing and that the oil filter was filthy. It really sucks that a Toyota dealer would have mechanics working for them with such a low work ethic. I've been in touch with the dealer and all I get is excuses. The oil filter really isn't that hard to change, so why the short cut?

The 2010 oil filter is located under the front skid plate and is a cartridge filter located inside of a housing. I now feel very knowledgable. Anyone wanting info on how to change oil and filter I would be glad to help.

sorry to hear about your troubles, cap. however, while it's very generous of you to offer to help others, you shouldn't be so quick to post your actual email address. among other things, that info is easily scraped by web spiders/robots and can cause you headaches or trouble you didn't sign up for... besides, forum members can always PM you.

glad you got your oil change sorted.

Take your concerns to Toyota corporate head office and demand complimentary service for 2 years. That kind of service and treatment is simply inexcusable. It could also have caused damage. Toyota corporate should be sympathetic.

It almost sounds like they didn't even take it into the garage bay... wow... Let us know how it turns out once you talk with Toyota HQ.

He's right of course, but good luck proving that one. Any dealer that DOES such a thing will just deny deny deny.

To help your case, make sure you keep the receipts for the oil and filter you purchased immediately after the oil change.

Also when you say you got excuses, what kind of stuff did they say? How could they try to justify something like this? It was amateur hour there and it's inexcusable.

Go to Cat Finning shop (or a heavy duty mechanic) and get a oil test kit and take 4 samples of the oil you took out. take the filter and one oil sample to them and get them to do a ware test on it. My dad did this with a Nissan they put 10w/30 oil in the transmission. He showed Nissan the work order from the dealer and the results from the test, and Nissan paied for a not trany.
