Dealer Installed satellite antenna

Hey All,

I picked up my new 2007 4Runner Limited V8 4x4 w/NAV yesterday and it's perfect except it has the satellite antenna stuck on the inside of the front windshield near the rearview miror. Is this the "standard" location for this or was the dealer lazy? It's sort of large but I assume it's just the antenna. If there is a better location/antenna, is anyone familiar with a great shop that could do that kind of work? I'm in SoCal (WestWood).

Also, I'm going to be looking for a good tint shop.

I am going to be installing the Terk XM direct to my factory nav this week and plan to install the little antenna inside the cab in far corner of the passenger side of the dash. If you do a search for "terk" you will find a few members opinions of antenna routing.

You should really install the antenna on the outside of the car. Far better reception, trust me.

I would have agreed with you before reading this thread that has several people who have been running them inside the cab with great results. Personally I am going to try the inside first. If it doesn't work out I will just route it up and out the passenger door as was done on my Tundra with XM.

I'm just telling you where my shop puts them daily, and thats out the outside of car. Don't get me wrong, you can get away with putting it on the dash. Sometimes you get lucky enough for it to work flawlessly, other times not so much. But I guarentee you that on the dash your antenna will cut out faster than if it is on the outside of the vehicle.

They make the xm/sirius antennas magnetic for a reason...not many dashboards are magnetic.
