I live in MD and spoke with a dealer in mid November. Told them what I was looking for. 2014 T4R trail premuim with KDSS in white.Was told they would have to order it. That's fine I can wait. Got call today saying they can not get it. Says Toyota will not build for this region. Is this true or bull shit? I'm pissed , been waiting over 6weeks. :help:

It would not surprise me if this was true, but I'm not an expert in Toyota sales regions. I do know that different regions get different vehicles, especially when it comes to the Trail Ed. Many people from the South and the East have had to go out of state to get the exact Trail they were looking for. It really sucks, but I'm sure Toyota has some financial reasoning behind it. However, waiting 6 weeks to find out this info is complete BS and I would no longer be giving this dealer my business. GL in your search, and hopefully someone with greater knowledge can expand on this for you.

The US has 12 sales regions. Each region determines what models/options they are going to sell/order. The SE region will perhaps have different configurations of an SR5 than will, say, the Midwest region.
So, what they told you is, technically, BS. Toyota didn't make the decision not to sell that model in MD, your regional management did. They could have told you the day you ordered. My guess is they hoped for a dealer trade and couldn't get one.
If you want that specific model/color, call other dealers in adjoining states. This will help:

Is there an easy way to find out whether Ohio Valley region will sell a KDSS-equipped TE? I placed an order about a month ago and would not like to be in the same situation.

2 suggestions:
1. Call dealer and ask.
2. Go to toyota.com, use your zip code, and try to build that model. If KDSS shows up as an option, I'd guess you're good. Toyota's web site allows configurations according to the regional zip codes.

best option is to find a zip code that will let you build one in Toyota's website. the usa website follows region blackouts by zipcode.
now if you want I can find a TE prem in white, but most dealer will not post package/options on the vehicle itself (shameless plug to get you into a dealer).
edit : you do realize that there is roughly only 21 white TE prem in the whole usa currently.

Thanks for the suggestion! If this is right, then I am good with the KDSS, but it won't be available in the Mag Gray. That's a shame ... I do wonder whether they plan to tell me now. Ha!

I ended up purchasing from a dealer after initially meeting a rather unpleasant human being (salesman). I swore I wouldn't buy from them but they had the best selection and prices. The 1st time, I just walked in. The 2nd time I made an appointment with the internet sales manager who steered me to someone more professional.

I talked to a guy at this dealership a week or so ago and he's obviously partaking in some crack smoking. Asked him what his best price was and he went into a long-winded reply that this car is impossible to find and there are none anywhere in the country. With that said, he stated he's looking for MSRP on it. I laughed and told him good luck.

When I was searching for my TE back in 2012 while I was flush with cash I wanted to build an AEV 4Runner repeat with $15k in ARB upgrades. The only thing left to do was to settle on price of the vehicle itself. Dealership wanted over MSRP even with the extra work I was going to order. I said no dice and kept searching. I finally found what I wanted on eBay of all aces. I called them up the morning after it was listed and bought it sight unseen all the way from Afghanistan.
I believe blizzard is reserved for LEs.

Apparently KDSS is reserved for certain regions and the Mid-Atlantic isn't one of them.

When I was looking for my T4R last year, I had dealers try to push what they had in stock and would not talk about doing an order. I had them tell me they are only available with certain options, some that I did not want.
Finally I found a local dealer who was willing to do an order. There were no restrictions on what I could get. If it was on the Toyota web site or dealers brochure, I could make my pick. This may be due to being in Southern Calif. but I think the others just wanted to sell me what they had for a quick sale.
It may have helped in that I worked with the internet sales rep and not a regular floor pirate who attacks you as you enter.
Get what you want with your choice of options and colors or wait for an order. Don`t settle for what they want to push on you. You will have it for a long time, a little extra cost and time may be worth it.
