Dealer oil change and now oil is pouring out from the 4runner

Got an oil change at the dealer and left . Now noticed oil is pouring out of the bottom. Called the dealer and they are going to pick it up. What are my next steps?

There is so much involved in changing motor oil on the 4runner.
I rather do it myself and make sure its done correctly.

The alternative is some general service tech half-ass changing the oil and not doing the job 100%.

They told me the oil filter housing gasket was not installed correctly. I am supposed to be ready later today. They said there is no damage and it will be documented for issues in the future.

Yep, there is actually 2 of them, the smaller one being the harder one.

If you want an oil change at my one and only dealer in town you need to make an appointment. Then, when you go in there is a line of vehicles waiting for their oil changes. Hmmm, what was the appointment all about? The two monkeys in the pit are furiously working to get vehicles thru. I can easily see where this scenario is a recipe for mistakes big and small. i have had no grease on the drive shafts to over greasing because I complained about lack of grease the last time. I can only hope they wiped the zerks off first when they did the grease.
Needless to say I have a much better place where I take my rig and they actually look at it for other possible issues, not a wham bam , thank you maam I'm done kind of place like the dealer. They did do my airbag replacement tho and everything looked good, no rattles, but barring another recall fix/repair issue I'll never go back there.

I took my truck to the dealership for my 10K "Toyota Care" service and boy was that eye opening. I only took it there because I was under the impression that I needed to do the Toyota Care services for them to honor my warranty. I was "thrilled" to discover that the idiot who changed my oil dumped oil all over my fuse box and left it there, and also took my filler cap off and put it oil side down on my $300 odyssey battery and left oil rings all over my battery. Thankfully I didn't have any gasket issues with my filter, but I am really hesitant to take my truck back to the dealership for any more oil changes...

So when the 2 year "free" service expires and customers don't ever go back, are they surprised? I guess they get enough business to where they don't care. If that free 2 years ever expires, these dealerships are going to freak out.

Kendall Toyota of Bend? They’ve got us between a rock and a hard place. HAH!

Wouldn't put up with this filtration arrangement past the 1st oil change if I had a 4R with it. Id convert to the spin-on arrangement unless there is something wrong with it that I'm not aware of.

Is there?

Do you mean the can type vs how it is currently with the reusable housing and replaceable filter?

AFAIK, there are no "can" type filters that can be used on our 1GR-FE.

As rdruss mentioned, this can be done by using a conversion kit made by a few companies that attaches where the OEM filter housing goes, then you can attach an "old fashioned" can filter to that.

Only problem I have read about is clearance issues between the new filter body and some skid plates. Also, the kits are kind of pricey IMHO.

Same thing happened to me. Good thing I caught it right when I got home. Assumed it was just a small spill on the skidplate but there was oil all over the undercarriage. The oil level was good and the oil light wasnt on so I drove it back. The technician did not seat the filter o-ring correctly and I supposedly only lost a quart of oil (service manager says). They redid the oil job (not sure they prob just topped it off) and cleaned the undercarriage. I got a free cabin filter and some cleaning products since they did a half ass job on the detail.

This was at Toyota of Oxnard, CA. Will be trying Ventura Toyota for my next service.

The name of service manager at DCH Toyota of Oxnard wouldn’t happen to be Chris Case would it? That dealer is full of idiots. I came in so they could turn on the feature that rolls down all the windows with the key fob and they ended up performing an oil change and rotating the tires without my permission since I had never used any of the Toyota care maintenance. I work for another manufacturer and as soon as I picked up the 4Runner I took it right over to our shop and found my oil filter housing covered in oil, skid plate bolt threads stripped and my oil overfilled. Had to get the Bureal Of Automotive repair involved to get them to pay up.

Mu horror story was actually on my Accord. Had to use the dealer (twice) because I was moving. First time I am halfway back to Texas and checked the oil at hotel. 1/2 quart high. Should have checked before leavigng but hectic. Next time is right after moving - same dealer. It comes back 1/2 quart over. I point it out and they take it back. Einstein under the car only knows that Accords take certain amount of oil so he fills it again ignoring that he didn't remove the filter. It comes back 1 and 1/2 over. I give a mini rant to manager and on the THIRD try to finally figure out how to look at the dipstick after putting oil in

They don't care, there are enough clueless and lazy people who think that the stealership is the best option and will pay the premium to go there.

This is too close to home for me. I have service scheduled with Toyota of Escondido soon. Hopefully I don't have the same problem.

I've learned after my experience and my fiancee's experience at the Subaru dealer that you always check your car and do a walk around and pop the hood before you take delivery and leave the dealer.

If they don't install your o-rings incorrectly and cause a leak, odds are they didn't change the filter at all.
