I'm going nuts here over principle... Please tell me if I'm being unrealistic.
In June I bought a 2006 4Runner with 108K on it from a very well known Toyota dealer. The deal was considered "as-is". Truck had great Car Fax service records for most entire life, and all services done at Toyota dealers. During the purchase negotiations, the salesman flashes me a list of items that had been addressed in there service department prior to the truck hitting their sales lot. On it were 3 or so things... Brakes, A/C and something else I can't remember. There were no details on these items only a dollar amount next to each one. The salesman used this list as a sales tool to help me "see" how great the truck is and how I should feel good knowing all these things have been checked/repaired. I bite and the sale is done.
Before I get the new tag, my a/c is blowing hot on drivers side. I think blending door of some sort and too bad for me because it's as-is. After researching I learn it's low on R134. Then I convince a service advisor to print the details on what was done prior to sale, and I see the A/C work that was done "evac and recharge a/c" and add a pound of R134.
I know I signed all rights away for any legal warranty since it was an AS-IS purchase, but I can't help but feel the dealer should take all responsibility since they new of this problem prior to the sale, AND used the fact they had spent a few hundred bucks on the A/C system prior to the sale.
Tell me I'm nuts and to just lay down!?
