Dealer repair problems

I am new to this forum and unfortunately and a little aggrivated.... so sorry in advance.

Last week I had what I thought was a leak in my tire. I brought it in to be repaired only to find out that the leak had something to do with the tire pressure sensor (leaking air). While at the repair shop I had them switch the spare rim with the rim that had the bad sensor. After messing around with it for a few days I decided that I needed to get it fixed... and that this was something that a dealer should do (since it required them to reprogram a portion of the car). I scheduled a service call for the dealer on Saturday.

I brought the car in and they fix the sensor and tell me that the spare tire storage system is broken and that I need a new one...... I said to place the tire in the back and I would deal with it later. I pay my bill (quite large) and go on my way. I get into the car and drive off... after about 30 seconds I find that the VSC system and traction controll system is off (by evidence of some lights on the dash). I bring it back and they say that they don't know how that could happen and it couldn't possibly be anything they did during the reprogram.

They take it back and mess around with it for about 15 min and say that it is fixed and give me my car back. I get it to find that the VSC system and traction controll system is still off. I bring it back again (now I am very irritated) and they want me to bring it back in a few days.... No I live in MA and last I heard there is a snow storm comming. I insist they try to fix the problem.

After anothr 45 min they say that the care is repaird and then send send me on my way again. This time the two lights are off and appear to be working properly. About 15 min form the dealer I decide to test all of the electrical systems I can. Everything appears to work with exeption of the rear wiper and washing fluid dispensor. Called the dealer back and they can't possibly think of why these systems are not working.

I specifically brought the car back to the dealer to avoid this type of problem.... because I had cheaper quotes from other non toyota repair shops.

Now I have another appointment to bring the car back in a week.

Is there anything I should know before I bring this car back.

Sorry for the long post.

FYI,
I have a 2004 SR5 4runner with 176,000 miles that I bought new in 2004. The car has run fine until now and I am afraid they may never get it right.

Ugh!!!!

If they disconnected the battery, you may need to cycle the rear window all the way down and back up before the wiper/washer/defrost will work. Hope that is of some help.

Best of luck.

He is right, i just replaced my battery, roll back window down, then back up but hold the botton down on its way up and once closed hold it for a few seconds, should work fine after that

OMFG

Why doesn't the dealer know about something like this? After I called they should have informed me to do this simple exercise. They could only tell me to bring the car in again.

And they argued with me about why they were not the ones that screwed up the back wiper.

I can't thank you guys enough. You spared me another few hours at the dealership.

That's why I don't use the dealership. You can search and learn more here and on google than they will ever know. They should know more, but never seem to.

That is just pathetic.

I talked to my parents today about the problems I am having and they said that is why they will never buy a Toyota.... because the local dealer stinks.

I bought a Toyota because of all the problems I had with a Ford I bought in 1999. It s*** the bed in 2004 at 140,000 miles.... which is why I bought the Toyota. I have had very limited luck since then with repairs at some very reputible/extremely high profile dealers. This just adds to the frustration

There is no way I can express my gratitude to you guys.

Since this is a problem with the battery, and I am on the OEM battery, if I get this changed at some point in time, I assume I am going to have the same problem..... are there any other problems I can expect if I have the battery changed?

It is just the computer resetting. Depending on how long you have it disconnected for you may also have your radio stations and such reset but nothing too major.

Curious - what dealership was this? I'm in MA too and though I never go to the dealer for service - I'd like to know as I have a Sienna that has the recall on the spare tire cable that I have to go to a dealer to fix.

This was the dealer in Auburn..... but I have had problems with the dealer in Attleboro as well. FYI they said that I had a problem with my tire cable and wanted $300 to fix the problem. I can't believe that the 4runners are not part of the recall.

How bad could they possible screw up the spare tire cable. I would like to think they could get that right. FYI, I have heard some terrible things about that dealership since I had my experience with them. It's sad because the vehicle has run great up to this point with only minor wear problems.

Unfortunately its doesnt matter what make of car you buy, some stealers are great and will do anything to help you and some just S()ck. I'd try another stealer if you can. If not ask to sit down with the general manager and discuss it with him/her. They will in turn talk to the service manager and you will get a nice call form them about what they can do to help....do your best to remain calm and reasonable, I know its the hardest thing in the world sometimes but its the best way to get what you want in the end....:thumb3:

Figures - I live in Auburn.:wtf:

Maybe I'll take it to Westboro or Milford (Ira).

with the warranty work i have done i have used Ira and have been extremely pleased.(the one in Danvers)

they were the only ones who could balance the tires right(static balance) and give a GOOD alignment(had two others who could not do it right).
