Dealer sticker on tailgate

What is the best way to get the dealer sticker off of the tailgate without screwing up the paint. The dealer is not paying me to advertise so I want it off.

Just take a hair dryer and heat it up and it should peel right off. If there is any sticky stuff left you can just use a little rubbing Alcohol or Goof Off. I hate those stickers!

That's what I made them do. They hated doing it, but money talks and they want your money!

First thing I did was peel off the sticker. They usually apply the sticker right before you take possesion so the adhesive really didn't have time to set yet.

Peeled it off like butter

Now I got to do the other 4runner badges...

Me too. took it off right away. 2 week later, I replaced them with T4R.ORG sticker.

I've known a lot of USED car lots that glue emblems or stickers on the body, but never NEW car dealerships... I would throw a holy fit!!

If I were purchasing a vehicle at a dealership that I knew did this, I would make it a condition of the sale NOT to stick any frigging advertising on the body of my vehicle.

But since you've already got the sticker, I would not have the dealership remove it because they will not take the same care as you will. Like previously mentioned, heat it up good with a hair-drier to get the adhesive soft, pull it off, and clean the residue with mineral spirits.

Yeah, they stick their wretched logos on after they wash it and hand you the keys. I wanted that to be a precondition to the sale that the dealer not affix any stick or other advertisement. It's nearly criminal.

I removed the dealer sticker from my tailgate a month after I bought it without any devices (i.e. hair-drier).

I think it depends on what kind of "sticker" your dealership uses. Mine used a plastic-type plaque with adhesive on the back of it, and as soon as I got my 4R home off it came. Happy to say it came off extremely easy.

I have the sticker back there. Granted, I don't really like advertising for the dealer, but my dad doesn't want it off. Oh well, it'll probably come off sometime when it really bothers me.

But be glad that its a sticker. Because when my dad had his Subaru Outback, the dealer riveted their little advertisement piece on.

... and that's exactly how it went down with my purchase! They did sneak one inside the front window, but it didn't survive the first 24 hours.

I went back and looked more closely. It's not really a sticker. It is as if each letter has been individually glued on the tailgate. It obviously came from a pattern displaying the dealers name and location. Each letter of the name has the feel of pinstriping. Since it is not a true "sticker" I will have to take each letter off individually-- which sucks.
