Dealer tried scare tactics to take her to the cleaners

In all my years of working in the auto industry, I can count on one hand the number of truly dishonest techs/service writers. Even with those, they were actually more interested in ripping off the company than actual customers. I think a lot of what is confused with taking advantage of people is really stupidity and pure laziness. Having a big fancy tool box doesn't always mean the guy actually knows what he is doing.

I can understand point. In my wife's and my situation, it was both laziness, stupidity as well as dishonesty. The tech broke a motor mount. Tech did not want to take time to repair said motor mount. Tech knowingly let wife take SUV with broken motor mount home. Tech rug swept issue when confronted by wife and tried to sell other services. Tech admitted broken motor mount when confronted by pissed off husband.
Anyway, my apologies to the OP for this threadjack!

I wish all states had a safety inspection to keep dangerous junk off the road.

Sungod -> Location: DC

After reading your post, why was I not surprised to see your from DC? :rolleyes:

News flash: More government is not always the answer. Matter of fact, I'd say more often than not government is an answer to a non-existent problem (This case being a perfect example).

News flash: It has nothing to do with government. It has to do with safety. I realize you wouldn't want something like this because 90% of the cars in Ky would probably be pulled off the road. I personally don't want to dodge someone's muffler because they are too irresponsible to properly maintain their car.

I actually live in VA, not DC. Personally I am not thrilled with the hassle of having to go in once a year and spend $16 for the inspection, but you just don't see the crap on the roads in VA that you do in KY.

I absolutely agree. The area of Virginia i live in borders nc and the difference between Va and nc cars is ridiculous when it comes to how they're maintained from a safety standpoint. I don't know what nc's inspection laws are but they must be slack.

Here in New England we have state inspections as well and though it's occassionally a hassle, it really does keep a lot of unsafe junk off the road.

I'm always a little startled by some of the vehicles legally on the road when I visit Florida. (another no inspection state)

Yet, California seems to lack any real safety inspection and instead is more overly concerned about emissions (to an almost ridiculous extent at times I might add)... go figure.

Probably because of the extremely high pollution the state use to have..and in some cases still has. Doctors in LA did autopsies of kids in their early 20's who suddenly died and even though they didn't smoke their lungs were like that of a smoker for the past 10+ years.
