New to the forum and just recently purchased my 4runner from a toyota dealership. Long story, but I wanted to get your opinions on if I should be annoyed for this...
First car I have purchased from a dealership. So everything went smoothly, purchased the car one night and then picked it up the next after they detailed and buffed it.
A week or two went by and they had not cashed my check. So I contacted my salesman to see what the hang up was and he told me just to wait it out, it takes a few days. So I wait a couple more days and it still has not been cashed, so I call again and ask to speak to the finance center. They tell me they needed proof of my salary (paystub) and proof of living space. I think to myself, if I hadn't called what would have happened. So i faxed over that information later that day.
Fast Forward to Yesterday, keep in mind this is my first purchase from the dealer, my temporary tags expire in a few days. So I head to the DMV (thinking that is what i needed to do to get my tags), I fill out a title registration form and take a number and wait for about an hour for it to be called. I have all the documents to go with the car except the title (which I know the bank keeps since it has a lein on it). I get up to the woman and she looks at all my papers and tells me the dealership needs to give me plates and that I already paid for all the processing and/or taxes. So i think to myself, wow I am pretty stupid I should have known that. So i had her look up to see if the dealership had even registered my car, and they had not. She tells me to call them immediately, so I leave and call my salesman again. He is like no no, you didn't need to go to the DMV, you pick the plates up here (I think to myself, jeez wish you would have told me that). So he connects me with the woman who does the registrations. She doesn't pick up. So I leave a message.
This morning, I decide to call this morning since I have heard no response and I get a hold of the woman that I had left a message for yesterday. She looks up my name and tells me that they are not ready. She needs a copy from my bank of the downpayment check clearing...I am like, you should probably know this it cleared 10 days ago. So I call the bank and get the copy of the check. She then says she will process the registration today, and I can pick up the plates tonight.
My question is this normal process? I feel like I had to a lot of extra work/calling to make sure things went smoothly. Not to mention had to take off work early to go to the DMV (maybe I should have called the dealer first, but I assumed you just register the car there).
Well thanks for reading, let me know what your opinions are on this. If I am in the wrong to be upset or not. Thanks! Love the car by the way.
