tick me off.

I put my 4Runner up on ramps yesterday to lube the driveshafts. I laid down on my creeper, pulled myself under the truck, and looked up at the bottom of my engine -- the skid plate was gone.

I'd taken the truck in for service at the dealer a couple weeks ago. They didn't put the skid plate back on after servicing the truck. Now, I knew my skid plate was rusting badly, so it might not have been possible to put it back on after they took it off. But it sure would have been nice if they'd told me.

Oh, well. I'd planned to order a budbuilt skidplate, but I guess I've gotta get one right quick (my vacation is coming up soon).

Sigh.

Oh, btw, the frame sure looks rusty where the skid plate was. Guess I gotta grind that down and paint it before installing the new skid plate. In my copious free time - "pizza for dinner tonight, sweetie..."

Don't let them off hook! Hopefully they've lost yours and will have to get you a better one.

I know you want Budbuilts. In the meantime you want some protection from road debris, the shredded tractor-trailer tire etc. They owe it to you! If you're old one did rust away to nothing make them show you!

I already ordered the budbuilt. It just isn't worth the effort for me to drive 45 minutes each way to the dealer, let alone argue with him.

Are you saying the dealer didn't put your ride back together- then lost the part?

It sounds like you're ok with getting ripped off?


Effort would only take a phone call to the right person to get you reimbursed.

Why not do that?

It just isn't worth the time and aggravation. I already knew that the old skid plate was rusted to heck -- part of it came off in my hand.

Yes, I'm kind of peeved at the dealer. But other than venting a bit, it just isn't worth the time to ***** at them about it. After all, I don't even WANT a new factory skid plate.

I had that kind of thing happen to my MkII Supra years ago, but each time I inspected the car afterwards and the technician still had the parts in his workarea (duh, how can you not notice that?). One time the dealer didn't reinstall the plastic undertray, and anoter time I got the car back without the windshield washer reservior. I swear they were trying to steal my car 1 part at a time.

The dealership overfilled my oil too much (more than 2" over max) and tightened the (AC Delco) filter so much that using a wrench just started to crush the filter body. After 30 mins of force with both hands, I finally got it loose (and pulled a damn muscle in my back) and changed the oil and filter even though it has only been 300 miles. The filter was on so tight (and gasket was unlubed) that it had basically glued itself on and left part of its gasket on the other side). Worthless!

The bonus- I sourced some of the Japanese-made Denso filters so I felt way better after changing it all.

That was my next step. I had the super-long screwdriver handy and did that a few yrs ago on a buddy's motorcycle after the dealer rounded off the K&N nut at the end. Of course, we forgot to put the drain plug back before refilling with frech oil but that is a different story...and a funny one. I still laugh when I remember the fresh oil pooling on his garage floor with him continuing to pour fresh oil in.
